I also didn't realize some schools aren't doing any outside lunch at all. My friend just filled me in on her kid's school's lunch plans and it sounds like a super-spreader event waiting to happen.

Here's the petition. Maybe it will help? https://www.change.org/OutsideLunchAPS

Considering it has even reached 500 signatures I am guessing there is a lot less concern over this issue then as imagined ...

Oh there’s concern for the issue, but as stated earlier, APE parents are too petty to sign it.

By your account, APE is very small and not representative of the broader community, so it ought to be easy for her to get a lot more signatures.

Many elementary school kids are not having lunch outside. I was disappointed that my third grader ate inside and had PE inside today at Ashlawn. It's a beautiful day. Couldn't one of those activities have happened outside?

Why wasn’t the courtyard or front steps where the chalk used? So so much outdoor space there.

Nope. Try again. Lots of them signed it. I know because I am in the group and there was plenty of support and many posted they signed it.

Our time and energy would be better spent advocating for full-time in the fall.

APS should do outdoor lunch to the maximum extent practicable.

However the petition contains hardline language and I won't sign it for that. If there is a lightening storm or tornado, my kid can eat in the classroom with the window cracked.

Nothing against the organizer, I d sign it if I agreed with the language and appreciate any genuine effort to keep hybrid safe and ongoing. I don't have any HS or MS kids, but indoor lunch seems the weakest link, so.......

The petition literally says you do indoor with mitigation on unsafe weather days.

But I understand why parents want a mandatory policy that it be offered as an option, especially at the secondary schools with the high numbers of kids involved.

WMS is only coming around because of the petition and pressure from parents.

I think you'd be better off with a petition to your school principal. We go to Claremont, and my kid has eaten outside every day he's gone to school. They said only if it's raining will they eat inside.

To the poster who keeps attacking a mom who put out a petition for safe lunch:

Please get some mental health help for yourself. Please. It's very sad that you spend your time coming on an anonymous messaging board to name call and attack someone for a safe lunch petition. Over and over.

If you're at the point where your outlet is online bullying and attacks, then something is clearly very off for you. You presumably have children, so the impact of this toxicity on them and on your family, could be very bad. You seem to be posting over and over so this is getting obsessive. I truly hope you will get some mental help for yourself so you can break this cycle. You don't have to live like this.

Nope. I'm in APE too. A member posted the petition there. But it got just four likes. and APE nitpicked it.

Not what I would call "plenty of support." I was very disappointed. Most of APE doesn't seem to get that this is what we need to keep schools open.

What's your answer PP - keep kids hybrid or DL until they are vaccinated in 2023? While the learning loss continues to get worse and worse? I am advocating for Full-time. My kids mental health needs it badly. I'm OK with them being 3 feet apart and taking that risk as opposed to the damage that has been caused this past year. Everyone is different and has their own story. Schools all over the country have been back FT and able to figure it out. We need to make it priority to get them back FT.

I think there needs to be a balance struck.

I'm just as concerned that my elementary school has decided to mostly teach in person students on their iPads. Not just concurrent, but most classes are only on the iPad.

Our school's teachers don't want to teach more than one group of students so the principal has said that teachers are allowed to decide if they want to teach on the iPad or in person. Other schools are offering specials outside, giving up on departmentalizarion this year, or asking teachers to switch classes and requiring teachers to offer in person instruction.

The inequity in the hybrid models in APS is astounding. Letting principals with no training or expertise in public health make these decisions for an entire community with no oversight or guidelines is ridiculous.
