Is GDS too woke?

We’re really curious what the mix of professions is 5-10 years after coming out if GDS. Do they all work at activist NGOs or performing arts?

Like most liberal arts students, they wind up as investment bankers or corporate lawyers.

More like unemployed, anti Capitalists or non profit people, no trust funds there.

You'd be surprised where a lot of people with this type of background end up. The critical thinking you learn with a liberal arts education ends up valued by corporate America and, at some point, people transition to a paying career.

Totally depends but I have had to counsel many GDS grads on interviewing and appropriate corporate behavior. Small sample size but the entitled edge they brought to things was totally unprofessional and inappropriate.

So glad to find out that many people don’t like GDS. Hopefully it will make my kids admissions easier.

Immigrant family here. We applied to GDS and we are really hoping DD gets accepted!

Why?

Because we value academic rigor, diversity and progressive ideals.

GDS has a highly curated student body and it’s expensive at the exclusion of most.

Preaching wokeness does not make it so.

But ridiculous, yes indeed.

I know a LOT of white families (all Jewish -- the running joke is that more families go there than Milton) and they LOVE GDS -- LOVE it. I have never heard them say that white kids are targeted at all. The education is amazing, Jewish/minority kids are super welcome there, and there is no targeting of anyway based on the color of their skin. If anything, I would expect it is more diverse and welcoming than Milton -- the general go-to school.

Op should move on to ranting about Potato heads.

Yes, the extreme right wing always focuses on the big picture.

GDS churn and burn social warriors taking on kid's books, syrup, rice, a cartoon dog and more!

Better to be woke than mindless sheep. But you do you!

Wow. We should pin this at the top of this section of DCUM. it's that true.

It’s a cool quote because like most quotes and concepts, it is interpreted differently.

The left think everything should be *free* so GDS private schools or anything w a price tag is oxymoronic.

The center thinks there is group think and biasedness in class work and discussions, so GDS is hypocritical.

The right thinks politics, ideology, gender fluidity, 1619 project should not be taught in k-12 schools but at home, thus GDS is trying to conform students to its political ideal, not foster individuality or free speech/thought.

Wow. So true. Everyone is talking past each other yet agreeing with the headline quote to their own liking. Ugh.

I don’t think having 4+ years of anti corporate America and anti-constitution classes and attitudes translates well to wanting to work at nor working at a company at all.

I want to know the data to answer the question as well.

Agree that 80%++ of the white people there are Jewish; very large component and clique. Has no bearing on the off-the-rails extreme political and slanted environment.
