Is GDS too woke?

Agree 100%. The wokeness has go too far. And is abusive to white students and Latino students...basically anyone who isn’t black. Enough already.

Lol Latino students?? The very same group who makes up the majority of “dreamers” and are demanding citizenship when they’re parents broke the law???

Latino students who make up a very large part of America’s permanent underclass?? Lololol

Bitter, much? BTW, it’s “their” parents. The children are not their own parents.

So what if dreamers parents were undocumented? The US immigration policy is fairly capricious. There is no magic to the quota ICE sets, it could just as easily have been 2x/3x/10x what it is. Illegal entry is malum prohibidum; it is illegal only because the gov’t says it is. There is nothing inherently immoral or evil about not jumping through regulatory hoops to make a better life for yourself. You probably know this, but ignore it because it doesn’t jibe with whatever anti-immigrant bias you have.

And in the next 20 years they will probably account for the majority of the US population

That’s some pretty strong unskilled, illiterate, uneducated illegal immigrant Open Border Koolaid you’re drinking.

To 15:14: I thank my lucky stars I don’t have your worldview. You sound like a backward Neanderthal. All of the countries that rank as better and happier places than the US (and yes, there are some, America is not so exceptional) have liberal immigration policies.

I have no problem with those positions per se, but it was a weird pitch to focus on that and never mention the math curriculum. I know that the school teaches math, but it was not a correctly calibrate pitch for what many parents want to hear about in an Open House. We ended up at a different school and are happy. I have friends happy at GDS. I think it’s more of a messaging problem than an actual problem with what the kids are learning.

the messaging problem would bother me, because it sounds hypocritical. GDS is a school, so it should be discussion how in its function as a school it enacts values of diversity and inclusion. - like solid history curriculums, scholarships, and hiring. Not buzzwords and one-off trainings. Otherwise it's like they're using diversity and inclusion as a marketing tactic, which is gross.

In fairness, they have this. And the school's history is legitimate (it was founded as an integrated school when the public schools were segregated). The question is now that public schools are integrated, why is a highly selective, expensive private school necessary?

Oftentimes these schools draw the new money strivers (think doctor/lawyer minority couple) so they can solidify their credentials.

How are Dreamers relevant here? There are no Dreamers at GDS or any of the expensive DC area privates. Diversity doesn’t stretch that far.

GDS is too woke. My HS-age kids are sick of it. Scared to say anything as you can get into trouble so easily

Wow. We should pin this at the top of this section of DCUM. it's that true.

EXACTLY! East coast limousine liberals. Very hard to taken them seriously. Kids in $500 sneakers, Moms with $3,000 bags, expensive vacation homes and nannies that basically raise the children. Just not the values we want.
