Here is the application rubric: https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/sites/dcpsenrollment/files/page_content/attachments/SY2122%20Duke%20Ellington%20Rubric_Final.pdf

This is helpful, thanks!

I wouldn't take that literally. The family interview can easily turn yes into a noon the school's part and the family's part. That's when grades are examined, when you find out people actually live in Virginia and didn't know tuition was required, or when you find out students and parents - despite being told a million times about the work day -- decide that 8 hours of school is way too much.

Good point. I figured it would be a way to weed out potential students/families that would not take the rigorous art requirements seriously.

Sorry if that sounded negative, I should mention it is also when people on the bubble can move up to a firm yes. The school is really good about working through those issues that might be red flags for other schools and seeing where focusing on a student's creativity might help them literally survive in some cases, especially when the family is unsupportive or unstable. That's all to say you should take the interview seriously.

Still haven't! No response to my follow up emails either.

PP from immediatly above; I called today and they told me she was on the waitlist for VA, neither moved forward or rejected, pending further review of her application. They are supposed to call me back with more detail about what that means, but thought I would share, and if anyone has insight into what being waitlisted means at this stage, I welcome it!

I'm really curious as to what qualifies students to make the cut. It seems that they are truly looking for the best of the best, and won't fill spaces with mediocre students.

The pp who mentioned back stage experience brings up a good point. What middle school has a theatre that provides students with backstage experience? My DC is coming from private and does actually have back stage experience, though they did not apply to TDP.

For the instrumental music making the cut is based on skill in chosen instrument, there must be a baseline ( which is never mentioned), but the ceiling is the talent on display each year, and there is still limited spots for each instrument. There are some truly gifted students who apply to the instrumental music program.

Has anyone heard from Dance, LMC, or Vocal Music yet?

Anyone get an invite to a family interview yet?

Has everyone heard back yet? Wondering if we’ll actually get an invite to schedule the family interview today like they said…

I haven’t seen anything from Duke since the “you passed the audition” email on 2/18. Anyone else?

No, but that email said we’d get an invite to sign up for a family interview by 2/28.

We got an email last night. It had no new information, but said more would be coming soon.

They are just trying to coordinate schedules of teachers and admin before they give parents options. Interviews require a department chair, and admin and a counselor. You'll get a sign up schedule after that.
