Thoughts on Fort Hunt Virginia?

I get doing that in DC but at least in most places where you’re paying a premium for a suburban location, part of the deal is high achieving schools.

For those concerned of diversity, there are diverse Fairfax County middle schools and high schools that are high achieving.

You are not paying a premium when buying in that area. You are getting a discount versus almost all other areas of FFC County.

It's overpriced compared to central Fairfax County, and right across the river you can get a similar house for half the price.

Obviously the answer is b/c price is not the only consideration when buying a house. Location, location, location. I want to live in Virginia and the private/Catholic schools I want are in Alexandria, and we have better River access here, and my hubby works in Old Town, and I have family in FFX county. Get it.

Show me a listing for something similar for 385k anywhere in Fairfax County.

That's not what I wrote, although that house sucks.

Haha this house is nicer than like 75% of what is in Fairfax county. Its completely similar to what Burke/Springfield are completely full of but closer in and its nicely updated.

It's a run of the mill split level. It's nothing special.

That said, it's not really much closer in than West Springfield for example. Right now it is 26 mins from West Springfield to the White House and 16 miles. Fort Hunt to the White House is 29 mins and 13 miles. At rush hour, the commutes are comparable.

But the odds of having a major delay commuting when commuting downtown on 395 are much higher than when commuting on the GW parkway. And of course Old Town is the job location for many folks living in the Fort Hunt area.

We lived in Belle Haven and we actually thought the diversity of the area was a good thing (we're a black/white couple) but onmyGodthisplace. We regularly got updates on the Belle Haven facebook page about "suspicious people" and one of them was my husband going for a walk!

I would say the area is shockingly conservative and I wouldn't say racist but I wouldn't not say racist, lol. I've met so many neighbors who didn't know my husband was black and said all sorts of crazy things to me (during that Belle Haven "ladies lunch").

We decamped to McLean which is oddly more progressive even though it's not nearly as diverse. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well... No one around here has ever called the police because they saw a suspicious black man in the Whole Foods. We don't have a Whole Foods or Harris Teeter or Trader Joe.
