Olney Schools on the Decline?

So-- I would think this is funny too, but as an Olney resident I found out firsthand that it's true. We went to Sea Colony for a week this August and we literally could not go anywhere in Bethany without seeing someone from Olney. I think we were there either right before or right after a BBYO event, so that may have been why. From parents with older kids, I understand this makes it really easy for teens to find rides for partial weeks, or to stay a few days longer than the rest of the family-- so this might be self- perpetuating. I actually started looking for places for sale bc my kids loved meeting up with random friends at the beach.

There are a couple of people on this board who are really antagonistic about Olney in general and the quality of Good Counsel, and I just don't get it. Personally, I don't love Olney myself, but it has many good qualities: I like most of the people I've met, there is a community feel even without a real town center, it's great for kids, plus it's a pretty easy suburban lifestyle...no jockeying for parking spaces at the farmers market etc. Housing is still a good value. I get why people live here, we made the move ourselves for practical reasons, and I also get why people would prefer to live elsewhere-- that doesn't mean Olney is an undesirable place to live for a while while. Hopefully readers will take the snide posts with a grain of salt.

Olney schools are middle of he pack. They aren’t bad, nor are they that good. The town of Olney is very nice. The question is about schools. I would never pay to attend GC as it is only ok. Sherwood is just as good.

Well, the fact that all of Olney apparently went to the beach in August during the pandemic might have something to do with it.

What is a BBYO event? I'm in Olney but didn't get my invite.

BBYO= B'nai B'rith Youth Organization. It's a Jewish teen group.

Great point. This will either make readers want to move to Olney to be with like-minded people, or stay far away from Olney. I personally am in the former camp but - given that this is not the DCUM travel forum -- I'm sure many readers of this thread will be in the latter.
