What did your kids eat for Thanksgiving dinner?

Anonymous
1,3,5 they ate everything- stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli rice casserole, turkey, and their fav- cranberries. I just don't get it when kids get separate meals. We have struggled with picky eaters, but we held the line.

Ha! What kind of pie and how in the world did you forget the sugar?

Pumpkin. I used evaporated milk which is sweet. Thought it would be enough. Mistaken. It’s not savory or sweet enough. I kind of want to salt it and enjoy as a veggie.

I agree with your kid. Y’all need to stop with the “healthy” desserts. Make it right and don’t eat it, eat a smaller piece, or don’t make it. Pro tip - taste a bit of pie to adjust the flavor before you bake it.

You are far more concerned than I. I wasn’t going for healthy. I just messed up. Also I tend not to eat raw eggs...which this recipe included. Exhale already.

Pro tip #2 - taste the pie before you put the raw egg in. Does everything need to be explained?

And I don’t understand folks that are mystified by the experiences of others being different than theirs. Good on you for having made it through with kids that fall into line with your parenting strategies. Understand that it’s an imperfect thing for many, even if we did exactly the same thing, it can have a different result. Food aversions and personality can’t always be trained out. We’ve opted to not struggle anymore and offer safe food choices along with what we’d like them to eat. Check out kids eat in color, it’s helpful.

You’re right, but you will get the posters that say your kids aren’t *really* picky eaters.

No, but I’m sure you’ll continue to.

Thats not picky.

Yes, it is.

No, its not. You don't get what picky is if your kid will eat those things.

You don't know that. I teach kids with autism, so I know a lot of really picky eaters. I would describe a picky eater as one who eats a handful of foods. Where you can make a list of foods that the kid will eat. But those lists are so varied. I've known picky eaters whose handful of food includes olives, or goat cheese, or raw spinach leaves, or canned tuna. There are no consistencies between what picky eaters will eat. So, if her kid eats 5 foods and two of them are turkey and apple pie, she has a picky eater.

Did you put ground beef in the trifle?

Mine are teens and ate everything except the green beans. But, when they were little they pretty much only ate ham (my SIL always does a ham and a turkey), mac & cheese, and biscuits.
