Showering after middle/high school gym class

Late 70s/Early 80s NJ: We most certainly did not shower.

I would have prefer death by fire ants to removing my underwear at school.

No showers when I was in MS either, back in the late 80s. There were a couple of in the locker room but I know of no one who used them to actually shower (possibly used as a more private changing area). I mean, given that we had 5-10 minutes to get changed, and there were at least 20 girls and 3 showers, I don't think anyone expected us to use them. This was in Florida so we did get hot and sweaty. I was grateful I had PE last period so at least I didn't have to go through more school being sweaty and smelly.

I met the HS PE requirement over summer school just to avoid that issue. All day PE in the Florida summer for 2 summers was much better than having to shower at school.

That's exactly what I did, in FL too!

No time for them to shower. As long as shower is taken at night before bed, not an issue.

I went to private school 6-12. 9-12 showering was required. We also had swimming once a week and were required to shower beforehand. There was a matron present who would report girls who did not shower.

I am thinking these days schools would actually ban it unless there were individual shower stalls and so on but even then I think that just invites other opportunities to happen ...

My high school was really old and had showers that were straight from a horror movie. People dared each other just to go into that area. I recall a rumor that one girl actually attempted to take one and turned on the water and it came out black. Given how creepy the whole area was it wasn’t hard to believe that rumor got traction!

Nope, showering is not a thing.

Graduated late 90s. No showers ever at school. In middle school gym was pretty simple, and no one cared that much about it (we'd reapply deodorant I think). I don't remember taking gym in high school, though I must have. I was an athlete so maybe that counted instead.

Guy here graduated 1985. Was on Cross Country and was sweaty as HELL after running in august. even though somewhat awkward, NOT showering was just gross. Amazingly, many of the seniors did not shower. they just sat and kept wiping sweat off until they cooled off then went home. After showering for a few days no one cared or paid attention.

Graduated in 90s
No one showered.

It was the lifetime sports class, not the traditional gym class.

Badminton and wiffle ball didn't really work up a sweat.

Not a thing and wasn't when I was in school either.

Graduated in 1985 and we never showered. Wash up and deodorant at best. It was one big shower room. Nobody wanted to go into a communal shower plus there wasn’t enough time.

Graduated 1992 and never ever ever showered in a school gym. Ever

I wouldn’t let my kids either

It ended decades ago!!! Probably in the 80s sometime.

No showering unless you wanted to or if we were swimming. High school gym class had a swimming unit that lasted a couple weeks
