Why are people gaining weight during corona?

Do you have problems understanding other people's perspectives in real life, too? You may be the same weight, but be careful not to lose or damage your friendships with your "curiosity." It's a lot easier to lose a few pounds than to restore trust.

People have reasons (excuses) to explain (justify) everything. My friends know who I am and they obviously feel my goid qualities outweigh the bad. One if my good wualities is my honesty and I don't nake excuses. If I gain weight, I admit I consistently overate. It's simple.

I don't hear people making excuses. They are offering the reasons why they are eating more and/or exercising less, and doing so in an honest way. Your attitude is unnecessary.

I put on 10 pounds VERY QUICKLY. now i am back to eating normally, and walking most days, and most of the weight has come back off, but not all.

Similar for me, plus having wine more often than normal. Back on track now and it's coming off slowly.

People are more depressed and anxious right now. Not exactly a great recipe for succeeding at eating well and exercising more. I have not gained weight, but I am a very regimented eater and don't snack.

I quit working out and have lost 14 lbs. I can’t gain weight now. I am eating all kinds of gross food too—I had long John silvers the other day! I’m usually 150 lbs.

Oh shut up OP. This is like the post asking for people to report their "modest" financial successes where people are all, "Oh, little ol me found a spare $1 million hiding under the bed! What a nice little discovery."

Why do you THINK people are gaining weight? It's an insane time. People can't go to the gym. People are stressed out. People are off their regular routines. And wearing elastic waist pants. It's a PANDEMIC, OP.

Lack of normal routine

Some people feel like they need gyms to work out/don’t have a home gym/can’t take the heat to go outside. Some people no longer have childcare available. Really OP, you can’t think of any reasons?

Agree.
And for me, due to my position (IT project manager rolling out MS teams to the company) I worked crazy hours for the first 3 months. I was teleworking, but I was putting in 80 hour weeks. A lot of stress eating.
I was getting messages from 6 AM until 11 PM every day.
Not everyone teleworking had it easy.

Also, not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain, because inadequate sleep messes with the hormones that govern hunger and satiety. Inadequate sleep increases levels of the hormone that stimulates your appetite and reduces the levels of the hormone that decreases it. Plus, being sleep deprived undercuts your ability to exercise willpower. It also messes with your blood sugar/insulin levels. So people who were working crazy hours, or were having trouble sleeping because of stress or depression, might have gained weight because of the effects of the lack of sleep.

Sorry you're a crap friend who lacks empathy.

I haven't left my house more than half a dozen times since March. I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment. I am now working from home. I used to walk about 5,000 steps per day. That's why.

I can’t taste anything due to COVID=weight loss. I bet people would pay me to come to their houses and infect them if they knew they’d lose weight. SMH

Stress increases cortisol levels and that drives weight gain.

I no longer walk 4 miles for my commute. OP, do you really lack such imagination that you can't imagine why people are gaining weight? I'm also looking after my kids 24/7 so I can't get out to exercise.

I've lost weight during corona. I do think it has to do with how you handle stress. I tend to do very well under stress and it tends to make me act better and kind of hunker down. A lot of people dont and end up stress eating everything under the sun

I have been stress eating and drinking. I actually have less time to exercise because I am working, keeping up with the kids, cooking and cleaning so much more because we are all home at the same time.

I don’t eat when I’m anxious, I just feel nauseous all the time. I’ve lost weight. It’s not the worst.
I am drinking a lot of wine though. I’m sure my health is not the best. H
