Does your teen have a fake ID ?

And I’m thinking about saying, clearly you are going to keep getting one so I’m not gonna play cat and mouse. However, know that if you get arrested, we will not be paying for an attorney.

Thoughts?

I never thought my kid was really the type fwiw.

If they do, you won’t know for sure.

Yeah, I would def take away each time you find one. In addition to warning about possible felony charges.

Me too.

I had so many and loved them. It was to get into clubs. I drank some, but mostly it was to dance and hang out. I never used them to purchase alcohol.

My daughter is 19 and is going to be a junior in college. She told me she had one this summer. Said most kids in high school had them, but she was too scared to get one until her freshman year. I honestly do not care. She has been in a 3 year relationship, is getting straight A's in a top college, had an internship making $37/hr this summer, and yes - she occasionally parties and sometimes smokes weed. 10x better than I was in college. All the power to her.

No, but many of his friends do. None of them seem like the "type." A lot of smug parents who judge others on DCUM have no clue what their perfect kids are up to.

I don't agree that having a fake ID makes you a bad kid. I had one when I was a teen. I also had two part time jobs (25 hours a week total), was an honors student, and was super involved in student theater at my school. I mostly used the ID to get into clubs to go dancing with friends. I did use it to buy alcohol (beer) occasionally, but not frequently.

none of that proves you were not a bad kid

Ok, you're entitled to your view. I certainly don't care.

sensitive aren't we??

NP here. Let it go, b&tch.

No one has mentioned that employees that believe those fake IDs can end with some very stiff penalties, lose their jobs, and businesses can be sited & closed. At least in VA, doesn't matter if the fake looks perfect, the employee & business are in huge trouble.

I went to UMD and 99% of the people I met that were from MD/DC/VA had fake ID’s. I was from the midwest where that wasn’t very common so that was surprising to me.

How do these IDs work with scanners? I thought the scanners were tied into databases to verify the ID cuz DMV sells your info all over the place.

It depends on the prosecutor. But after 9/11 fake ids are actually a federal offense. Have not heard of any under age kids being prosecuted with it that are US citizens.
Lots of non US people deported over it.

My son got his from China I think. Works with the scanners which is really kind of terrifying if you think about people who are trying this for nefarious purposes.

Not true.

Look at points 5 and 8.

Cited. Learn to spell correctly. And no, that wasn’t a typo.

Found 19 yr olds when she asked me to go in her wallet and get her insurance card to send her a photo. It is amazing but we had a long chat of the consequences of using it and she decided to hand it over. Don’t want to risk run-ins with the law over just waiting another 1.5 years to be legal. All her friends have one so she just enjoys the “benefits” from them using theirs. She is not into going to bars so she thought it would be a good idea to use at stores. NOPE

My 16 yo doesn’t but she has a senior friend who does. And I found out he was buying for her and her friends.

Most people I knew in college had one - me included. Some had fully fake ones they bought but most of us just had someone else’s ID. You’d have an older friend connect you to someone who looks like you. Give them money and they’d just report their id lost and get a new one and give you their old one. Mine was some girl named Alice who also had brown hair and a similar enough face. My friends with older sisters were lucky enough to get those and they were pretty foolproof if you look alike. We were told this was less of a serious offense if caught than a fully created fake or altered real id (which I also did at 19) but idk that was a long time ago.
