Why are people not wearing masks?

I'm not a scientist, but given the how much we heard about protesters weren't in danger because they wore masks, despite being shoulder to shoulder, I'd feel pretty safe maskless outside. But out of courtesy, If I'm walking and someone else is approaching me on the same block, I'd put the mask on.

Tbh I wish all these mask fanatics would put their efforts towards something more useful like shaming people who text while drive, or mow down pedestrians and bikers.

And if they stopped being more militant about it, more people would voluntarily wear masks. But they couldn't exert power then, so her we are.

Ok, so you’re not wearing mask to be oppositional? That’s really flawed logic.

What if it’s not a brief fleeting interaction?

You don't let it become longer! Holy cow, how did you survive to adulthood?!

You do realize folks are walking in neighborhoods or in a cafe setting with no mask thinking they’re distanced, but realistically not? The idea that being outside makes it ok ALL the time is a real mindset for many.

(I wasn’t asking for myself btw)

Oh, well. Find a real problem.

I swear, this entire panic smacks of UMC women who final found something to live for.

They are, actually. I have friends in rural America who don't have time for this crap because they're trying to afford groceries and shoes for their kids.

Hey, guess what. I’m not upper middle class, live in DC and my job is shut down until the numbers go way down. So I need everyone to wear a mask when they’re near other people. my kid needs food too. And going to Goodwill right now makes me too nervous so we could definitely use some shoes as well. Rural America needs to wear a mask also. Just because it’s not a hotspot where they are right now doesn’t mean it won’t be because they’re blowing this off. Look at Texas.

So you really have zero input about the real world. I know. I grew up there.

I grew up in Loudoun County. Before subdivisions. Most of my family lives much further out. We grew up so poor that my dad had to hunt for meat.

And dad was from far west Texas.

Liar. If you CURRENTLY live in DC, you're clueless.

I’m confused as to what your message is. Do you not understand that people live in all sorts of different neighborhoods in DC? We are not wealthy and are scraping by. We have family and friends in rural areas. We are not uninformed. We also believe in science.

What if you made your mask out of tinfoil ? That would really show them!

I’m seeing a lot of people in parks that are 6 feet away from one another, but there’s also probably 100 other people plus doing the same thing. I’m thinking of Logan Circle particularly. Would there be more concerned when there are lots of people in a small area not wearing masks? Technically most of the groups or couples or small families, so they don’t need to be distanced or masked together; but there are also large groups of people that look like they’ve met up for a picnic. Wouldn’t there kind of be a cloud of everybody’s exhalations over the park? there are so many groups of people doing this in the park on the weekends, 100 is definitely a very conservative number.

Does density matter even when distanced outside?

Can someone answer this? Genuinely curious.
