LOL. You must be new here.
This forum is anti-MD, anti-MoCo and anti-MCPS.

Oh and I thought just Virginia and Republicans.

Montgomery County's General Obligation Bonds are rated Aaa by Moody's Investors Service, AAA by Standard and Poor's, and AAA by Fitch. These highest-level ratings reflect the County's growing and diverse economy, its substantial tax base, strong financial position, and strong financial management.

Their income taxes are also higher than Virginia's. Also, Virginia has some of the best public schools in the country and great public universities. Just be sure to weigh the cons as well as pros. But you know your circumstances best. Best of luck!!

This person is an idiot.

You have the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, St John’s and the Naval Academy

After that it is a string of public and private schools for underachievers

JHU is not a state school. It’s a very expensive private university !! ST John’s is also a PRIVATE college.

UVA, VA Tech, William & Mary, GMU, JMU are STATE universities. Univ. Richmond is PRIVATE.

Thank you. How long does it take during normal times? And is there a non-driving way to commute in? I will probably prefer to drive for a while but after the pandemic ends, I will want to take the train again.

Commuting options from Bowie to DC:
https://www.cityofbowie.org/128/Commuting
https://www.cityofbowie.org/439/Local-Metrobus-Routes

The drive from my house to Union Station right now (7:45 AM) is 30 minutes. It’s a straight shot down Route 50, though of course there can be congestion. My daughter lives in Bowie & works in DC, and she heads out early so she can enjoy a regular 30-minute drive.

If you’re not driving, you could take the Metrobus to New Carrollton Station & then take the Metro to your desired stop.

Here’s a nice Cape Cod model in the Kenilworth Elementary neighborhood:

A decent flip for a 3-bedroom Colonial model, also in the Kenilworth neighborhood:

If your family has really been in Bowie for over 60 years, you’d know it is “K Section” or “Kenilworth,” not “the Kenilworth neighborhood.”

LOL we have been, and I didn’t figure anyone unfamiliar would know about the sections, but most people can find out that Kenilworth Elementary is well-respected. My husband grew up in the T section (St. Pius & Bowie High) and we now live in the F section. Better? Parents moved into the K section in 1962, and I attended Kenilworth, Tasker, and Bowie High. If you have any Bowie needs or questions, just LMK.

(So doing the math, I guess my mom has been here 58.5 years as an original Levitt homeowner; my dad passed away last year.)

Can you tell I absolutely love Bowie? I’m the one tossing it out as an option in every thread.

As someone who has been to College Park, Cville, Vegas AND Venice, PP’s comment is complete nonsense.

Don’t believe i made a distinction between state and public schools. You must have attended a public or private school for underachievers.

What is it you think "great means"

It's all cheap for a reason, and far from great.

Sayeth the racists who have never been there (or not been there recently). College Park/University Park look very much like the Midwestern college town I grew up in - there are beautiful historic homes, good coffee shops. quirky stores, and parts are very walkable. It hasn't been cheap for some time. Hyattsville and Mt. Rainier have a Takoma Park feel with a more affordable price point. Artists, gay couples, and millennial families are buying there in droves. Finally, Greenbelt is frequently picked as one of the best cities to live in in the entire country. It's very diverse. Very good public services. Walkable. Green. Small town feel. There are a lot of racists who write nasty posts any time any one mentions a great house or an event in PG county. If it's not a McMansion in a light and bright NoVa neighborhood it's ugly or unsafe or full of crime. It's noted (and disgusting).

You're right. In Charlottesville, they lynch people and run car over folks.
Yeah, College Park is nothing like Charlottesville

If anything, Bethesda=McLean. Chevy Chase is unique (like Kenilworth, IL or Bronxville, NY because it is older and planned, unlike McLean).

Here's a good article on the MD/VA sister neighborhoods: https://ggwash.org/view/76089/northern-virginia-montgomery-county-maryland-neighborhoods

I agree with the article.

The main difference in Maryland is that housing stock tends to be older and there isn't as much retail in some areas.

Otherwise, it's much of a muchness.
