Anyway, I just bought the Pikolinos Alhambra Mary Jane, and they are incredibly comfortable, light-weight, and cute! On sale for $91 at Zappos, and MADE IN EUROPE! LOL

OMG those are so ugly.

OMG, they ARE the ugliest shoes I've ever seen. I really didn't think they would be that bad until I opened the link!!!!

I needed a good laugh and I got it. Thank you!!!!!

After opening the link, I almost fell out my chair laughing. I mean really who the fuck would wear those? Those are too funny, seriously?

I'm sorry those "european" mary janes are FUG!

NP here. I saw a lot of people wearing those types of shoes in northern Europe the past few years. Not my taste either, but I have seen them.

I'm a SAHM so I don't need nice shoes, but I live in sneakers...fashion sneakers like colorful new balance, etc.
They are comfortable and don't give me blisters, and I rarely have to spend more than $100. I actually couldn't afford to if I wanted to, and have always considered $100 shoes to be expensive. It's all relative. This is obviously a privileged group!

I think they're okay. Not spectacular and not as fugly as the above posters are making out. I would love to have the above mockers reply with what they think are really attractive shoes.

I started wearing Danskos for work (in a hospital) which progressed into healthcare realated work, outside the hospital. I just bought a new pair which I wear for work (part time healthcare) and everyday. Someone at work last week told me how beautiful my shoes were, I laughed as I thought of these posts. So someone thinks they are beautiful!!!

Anonymous wrote:Most women I know have closets stuffed to the brim with nondescript clothing and only wear 20% of it according to statistics. This is typically American. In Europe, women have small, edited closets and only buy a couple things each season. But everything they buy is of great quality.

The same women who claim they can't buy better shoes are often the same ones who go to Starbucks every day and go out to eat at restaurants at least weekly.

Of course, it all depends upon your personal preferences. And I will say that people who know you will never tell you how your shoes come across - but they speak about you.

Once you buy your first pair of quality shoes, I guarantee you that you will never go back to the old brands.

What a load! My dad worked for the state department and I lived in Germany and France for a total of 13 years. There is so much cheap shit clothing over there... the women don't look any better than we do (okay, maybe Parisian women do but other places... no... especially the Germans!) There was one popular store over there (I guess it was equivalent to Kohl's or something like that)... it was called C&A... my American teenaged friends and I used to make fun of it and call it "Cheap and Awful"....

I also spent years in Germany and France. Maybe pp doesn't speak the languages as I will tell you that the natives sit at cafes and make fun of the horribly-dressed Americans. It is sport - and true that Americans are considered to be one of the worst-dressed countries. Most of us place too much emphasis on being comfortable and equate that with too casual and sloppy clothing.

They make fun of Americans because they wear jeans and sneakers, which does look ridiculous -- oh, and shorts. Europeans are also starting to dress down now, too, though. Trust me, if you venture outside of the tourist areas, you'd know that not all Europeans are well dressed or wear expensive clothes.

Who gets to decide what is "too much emphasis on being comfortable"? I can't imagine choosing to walk around on vacation in clothes that are uncomfortable, just so some snotty European doesn't snicker at my less-than-$1,000 shoes. Who cares what the French think? The only good thing they have done for the world is cook.

State Dept girl here. Yes, speak both languages (grew up over there) and do agree that they make fun of us all the time. What else could they do after looking at American tourists' fanny packs, mom jeans, and big white sneakers? But have you ever seen Germans' socks with sandals? Their spiky mullet haircuts? Their constant wearing of - what else can I call it? - greige? And please, the French... even if one looks chic it doesn't help if one hasn't taken a shower in three days... Don't get me wrong... I love it over there... the food is just so much better all around...

This thread is comical. Isn't Dansko a "European" brand? Are these crazy generalizations absurd or is it just me (and my lowly, ugly Merrells)?
