| Agree that lack of ussf meddling is a benefit. Maybe the USWNT and the USMNT should try that as well. |
Yes but at young ages that is life DA, ECNL or any top league - that they get moved during tryouts for any sport. But a U12 / U13 is so very different than a high school kid who has made a lot of commitment over their teen years to this sport. The younger ones - may quit, may still be doing things bc of parents, may have been moved up out of club culture. Most have not developed yet to see the real potential. But, They aren’t looking at a recruiting calendar as a junior wondering how it all adjusts - showcases, college camps, etc. they aren’t seeing their biggest showcases where they are Playing to have college coaches gone. Not to mention now the SATS have been cancelled for several sessions . On top of social things. It’s just very different than a U12 or U13. So yes it would be bad if my U13 gets cut (or her friends) but for my high schoolers trying to manage recruiting right now, I think it’s a much bigger issue. |
My thoughts exactly. Especially the older girls, no way will they wait around and see what this new GAL works out for "elite" soccer clubs... |
It's funny, those who understand recruiting, like the parents of those older girls, are thinking the exact opposite. This must be a Loudoun 07 parent. |
Unfortunately this appears to be the case. Behind the scenes many of DD's teammates and parents are securing spots with ECNL teams. Given the situation I think ex-DA clubs, especially FCV leadership are being naive to think top talent is staying for an unproven platform. |

"Her new team." Does that mean you've already talked to coaches there and received a commitment? |
| Curious also regarding the above-are the ECNL teams making verbal offers to players now and plan to have them sign on the dotted line on May 1 when offers can be official? |
Also, maybe not at 04/03, but at 07 all the way to even 05, puberty is a real thing. The kid you are offering now for a spot in May, to play MAYBE in the fall may not look (for worse or for better) like the kid you remember from a year ago or whatever it is that is making these coaches consider making offers based on a phone call. Risky. |
Doubt it’s happened. Some here have an interest in convincing DA players to go ECNL now that there is an alternative. Bringing this post from the USSF DA thread here: Obviously, the dynamics of all this have changed dramatically over the past 24 hours. With no alternatives for the entire week, it's clear why GDA parents may have considered ECNL their primary or only option. Now that it's becoming clearer that there will likely be a new league with essentially the same clubs and better rules, the thought process changes again. To take a step above what this has descended into, let's do a thought experiment. If I am a DA parent at FCV, for example, that says a few things. First, I am competitive. I want my DD in the best environment possible. This means quality teammates but also an intelligent playing style and high quality coaching. There's a reason I made the decision to abandon Loudoun, where my DD may have played as a youngster, to come to FCV. If I have the option of staying with my club, which plays a much more sophisticated style with better coaching than you find at run and gun Loudoun, why would I go back into that less advanced environment? How would that benefit my DD, who may not even fit in well with the style and coaching? Now, if there are no alternatives and ECNL is the only game in town, I as a parent need to suck it up and go to the environment that is not, in my opinion, ideal. That isn't true anymore. It seems that the option to stay put in essentially the same environment I was in last year is the best choice. Loudoun's style and coaching didn't get an ounce better from the USSF's moment of weakness. Replicate this thought process around the area and that will be how decisions turn out overall. There are reasons people choose certain clubs and against others, no matter what patch is on the jersey. Those don't change because the color of the patch changes, so long as there is a showcasing platform. |
| I’d be very surprised if FCV comes out completely unscathed and all of their current ex-DA teams stay completely the same. I just don’t believe they won’t lose at least a few girls from each team, if not a mass exodus if they don’t somehow pull off getting back into ECNL next year. |
How many FCV coaches do you think will jump shit too? |
