If the Dems take the Senate, it could happen next year.

Or it could not. Just like last time the ads held all the cards. Sniff.

The Dems are unlikely to get 60 Senators.

The only times we end up holding all the cards is when you all have left us a giant freaking mess and there isn’t time for everything.

Yes. 51 for 51.

DC should just stop paying federal taxes till it gets real representation.

51 votes will get you just that. But you need 60 to pass legislation like statehood.

Just ask if you and your family would feel better in a crisis with Gov. Hogan...or with Gov. Bowser.

I thought so.

DC should retrocede to Maryland.

Really?

Just ask if you and your family would feel better in a crisis with Gov. Bowser...or with Gov. DeSantis.

I thought so.

Florida should be a territory.

DeSantis may be stupid but there is no evidence so far of corruption as with MB

1. Yes, there is.
2. There's evidence of corruption with Hogan.
3. If having a corrupt governor, at any point, disqualified a state from being a state, then there would be very, very few states in the US.

Bowser weighed in.

Really great to know that city leaders waste their time on inane "DC statehood" issues. Does a lot to make me think that they need more responsibility and power.

The question of actual statehood is another matter.

The reduced level of assistance to DC in this bill is just another partisan (a little) and racist (a lot) move by the Republicans.

Oh, and they just got done cutting the air pollution rules for cars so we'll be all ready in the future if we have another virus that attacks the respiratory system.

DC government leaders win few friends, for statehood or otherwise, by always playing the racist card. A lot of middle America just tunes DC out as a result. I suggest that we focus on getting full congressional representation (as decent state services) by trying to rejoin Maryland. It doesn’t help to blame every perceived slight on racism. Sometimes, as here, it’s due to the incompetence and inattention of DC’s mayor and congressional delegate and their immediate teams.

Another person defining "middle America" as white.

You can define it however you want. And they view DC as whiny, entitled, somewhat corrupt and not very competent. Good luck with your statehood!
