As opposed to the broad generalization about all URM and Questbridge applicants that doesn't even have the benefit of an anecdote? Can see where your prejudices lie. |
How are they not generic? What do they bring to the table that others don’t? Good SAT scores? A laundry list of extracurricular? Generic. |
Mostly the size of the pool, right? Within their cohort, they are generic. Compared to your kids, they are extraordinary. |
Yes, this is why the majority of kids in elite colleges are URMs and Questbridge. No more room for 'normal, balanced kids' which is your way of saying white kids in Trump speak. |
There is a regular anti-private school poster who posts something like this nearly every year. They still insist last year's STA class was 'horrible' despite nearly 50% going to top 25 schools. |

Exactly What's the big deal if these kids aren't getting into Ivy's? Wasn't their high school experience and their love of learning enough???

Big 3 parents, ladies and gentlemen! - Big3 grad going public largely because the environment consists of people like this |
| My kid's slot was clearly taken by a legacy or URM. Both are equally is bad. What I can't figure out is should I vote for Elizabeth Warren because of the legacy issue or should I vote for Trump because of the immigrants and URMs that took my kid's slot. Tough one. |
| OK. But that is a generalization. you can find arrogant jerks everywhere and also decent people. Teach you kids to pay attention and choose their company wisely. |
Too bad your kid missed the chance to enroll in Trump U. That could have been the perfect fit. |
Genuinely happy for the BASIS DC students. It will be interesting to see if results are as good at BASIS McLean. I think this is their first full graduating class, and I wonder when Whittle will have their first graduates. The students have chosen a different and difficult path, and I hope that too colleges will give them a chance. |
Please tell me this is sarcasm. Because the number of first-gen and URMs at top 10 universities and colleges is small https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/08/24/us/affirmative-action.html |

So if your smart, motivated, engaged child didn't getting into the elite schools of his or her choice, they will presumably go to another good but not quite as elite school, with all the other smart, motivated, engaged kids who didn't get into Harvard or wherever. They will be taught by all the professors who were top notch scholars but not quite good enough to get a position at those top 10 schools.
Am I getting this right? |
