| The numbers quoted were about early acceptances to Ivies. Of course there are many more acceptances to other colleges at both schools. NCS is doing well and so is Maret. I imagine GDS too. So basically another good year, nothing to do like the title of the thread. |
Ok big 3 high performing upper middle class URM, deferred. |
|
I have a big3 kid and one who is going to Wilson next year.
The Wilson admits have been phenomenal. I don't know many Wilson kids but I personally know 3 Ivy admits in my small circle: Brown, Yale and Harvard. No major hooks: all upper middle class white kids and non legacy. |
| ok. the big 3 have that too. |
NP. I think the point is that well-prepared kids (with involved parents) can do well w/college admissions coming from Wilson, too. I have a much younger kid in private currently, but we're IB for Wilson. I'm happy to hear about these results (we may consider Wilson and Walls, if possible, for high school). |
This isn't really unusual for Wilson, (or SWW for that matter) |
yes, that is the point exactly. That in DC you don't have to spend close to $50K a year for school in order to get into elite colleges. Top kids at Wilson and STA/Sidwell/NCS are getting into the exact same schools year-in and year-out. |
| Sending your upper-NW privileged white kid is a shrewd move if you are focused on college placement. The trade-off is the struggle of being in an “urban environment” but maybe that’s the point. |
The demographics are rapidly changing. In 3-4 years Wilson will be as white and wealthy as Janney or Lafayette. The students really will be pretty much indistinguishable from those in the suburbs. But you can send them to Banneker or McKinley if you think it will give them some sort of edge. |
+1. You nailed it. |
| St. Albans is doing better than other years and have over 30% committed after ED. Higher ivy acceptances as well, for those who care (I don't). |
We have heard a lot of good news about this year’s GDS seniors so far. |
Maybe. But once they get to college, the former struggle (including with writing), while the latter are well prepared. |
Bowser and a majority of the council will keep Wilson diverse no matter what. It’s a political imperative for them. |
Affirmative action admit. |
