Teachers— do any of you love your principal?

Anonymous
Nope, no one at my school does. But we keep hoping to outlast this one as most of us are very committed to the school.

As a hopefully incoming pk-3 family (fingers crossed) I am very excited to hear this!

I’m a teacher there and I 100% agree. He’s awesome.

We loved and miss Mr. Kip at Mann....so glad you're feeling the love for him at Garrison.

Oh my gosh, I was just going to post about Mr. Kip (now principal at Garrison) — parent here, but my (now very skeptical teen) DC still frequently cites him as the gold standard in terms of teaching. Glad to hear he’s now having even greater impact as principal.

Ross principal is a control freak. Some teachers put up with it. Plenty leave.

I think it’s more the pressure cooker environment than leadership ability.
What do you mean?

You have a school of largely high performers so you’re trying to go from like 85% to 100% test scores, and any dip is a mark of shame. Plus a bunch of parents who think they are at a private school for the price of $1,000 PTA dues. At that point everyone is expecting perfection and it just isn’t going to happen.

Do they?

Is this a joke? I can’t speak for your principal but ours is one of the hardest working people I have ever encountered. He is the first one in the building and last one to leave. Not only has student achievement improved under his leadership but I’ve personally seen him do everything down to cleaning the floors. He knows and greets every student and family by name and it is clear that his commitment to the school has spread to his incredible staff.

I would say most principals work incredibly hard. Their work is not always visible.

My principal hardly breaks a sweat.

I would say the same about mine, but in a good way. (I guess I am assuming your comment to mean yours isn't working hard - sorry if I am incorrect).

I feel like mine works incredibly hard but is able to keep her cool under extremely stressful situations in the school and under intense pressure from the very entitled community.

No, not what I meant. But I’m happy for you! Hope my principal resigns soon.

Same here.

Teachers and parents love our principal.

What I find interesting is that folks are quick to bash & name a school. However when they like a school or school leader they are very quiet about it.

Well actually, no teacher on this thread who dislikes their principal has named their school but some of the few who do like their principals have named their schools. I am not happy with my principal but would not like to name my school because I am paranoid.

I am one of the PPs (a parent) who was raving about my child’s principal and I’m happy to name him— Principal Kip at Garrison. He was already mentioned a few times on this thread. I just get nervous about naming a specific person/school because it seems that trolls a can be so vicious on this site anytime someone is praised for doing something right!

And no, I’m not in love with him... I just have a lot of respect for the work he and all the incredible staff members are doing at Garrison!

Dues are not $1000. PTA accepts any donation to join. Of course many who can afford it donate generously.

Whatever the amount plenty of parents believe their donation saves tens of thousands of private school tuition and treat staff as such.

I don't think we need to love our principals (or other bosses) for them to be effective. This ratio doesn't seem wildly off from a poll of any other kind of job.. lots of people don't love their bosses, but the work/pay/colleagues are good enough to make it work.
