FWIW - the new chief did not agree either. I was in a meeting a few weeks ago and he said he both misled by staff (not shown all the options) and his words were twisted around because staff cherry plucked one email. |

Perfect traffic trifecta: heavier Duke Street traffic backing up during rush hours (and beyond); new Quaker Lane traffic light patterns to allow pedestrian time outs complemented by heavier Duke Street up Quaker Lane by auto traffic; lastly new Seminary Road turn lane design which is counter needed traffic flow (North Quaker vs South Quaker turns.
This is impacting Dysfunction Junction (Quaker, Braddock, King) already which hasn't had a proper over-hall in 40 years. $10 Million for such magically removed by Mr Jinks a couple of years ago to allow "balancing the budget"! I have a major beef too with how much of our taxpayer money is spent in the East end of Alexandria City (Old Town, Del Ray) as opposed to the West end (Quaker and West). We need to consider changing our election rules to show equal regional representation. Council Woman Pepper lets her alleged West End constituents down time and time again. Long past time for her to be voted out. Alexandria City is not being well run by Council and Staff. Don't complain when it affects you and you said nothing! |
Meanwhile emergency vehicles have moved down the road just fine - using the center turn lane as predicted, with cars staying in their lane or moving slightly into the bike lane. Maybe someone should ask him AFTER he has seen it work. |
Not sure how that negates the fact that he was misled by staff or feels they misrepresented his views. |
So you are the lone bicyclist who made the commutes of hundreds longer and more frustrating and it difficult fir me to back my car onto King St. I don’t know how long you have lived on King St but people walked before the bike lanes, particularly on the weekends. Bike lanes could have been added to both King and Seminary while still retaining the four lanes of traffic. Simply paint a bicycle decal on one lane if traffic as is fine throughout the city. |
Sanctimonious Street is quite unsafe |
Agree. pepper has done her duty since 1985 and it is time for her to take Dr Pepper to Goodwin House. |
Ouch. Ageism! |
No sir or madam. Reality of living with Pepper as our "supposed representative" for decades. She did nothing for my family or community in the "West End". |
How can emergency vehicles move down the center lane? There are pedestrian islands intermittently along the center lane. The vehicles have to move into the vehicle lanes to maneuver around the islands. I saw them do it this evening. |
Ineffectivism |
PP, correct. Unfortunately Pepper has completely lost whatever value she may have had at one time. She supported Justin’s slaughterhouse. She was totally ineffective on the Seminary Road mess. She is completely silent about the scooters in my front lawn. Silent in the dumb school board plan to put west end kids in a stripped down high school. Crickets on Duke traffic. She’s just valueless. Needs to step down. |
I'll wait for the actual data. This ain't it. |
I prefer experience over data. Data can be manipulated as was done throughout the process. I experience the delays on both Seminary and Janneys Lane daily. They were not there before the road diet. To avoid them, I take Howard to Braddock and Quaker back to Trinity, which is fast becoming a cut through. Wait until those rich people start complaining. |
+ infinity. actual experience is the data motherload. |
