Just an FYI - that probably isn’t happening on Fort Williams. I know this is new for you all, for most of your fellow Central Alexandria neighbors have dealt with that traffic for years on a near daily basis. There is close to zero chance the city will do anything to push more traffic on those roads. One of the central tenets of the Central Alexandria Traffic Task Force is that the city would look for wholesale rather than piecemeal solutions to cut through. And SHA already voted against a turn restriction on east Trinity, so any relief to west Trinity is a no go. |
| Thanks for the info! We’re going to try anyhow. Doing nothing seems worse to me! |
Of course! I would expect nothing less. Why work with your neighbors who are suffering from the same issues when you can just try to screw them over on two fronts (voting against turn restrictions for them but petition it for yourselves!). |
Transurban is for road diets and better/safer walking and bicycling? That's great, but why? |
The changes to Seminary seem like a piecemeal solution. |
Building a sidewalk on a road is not a handout. |
Transurban is not for road diets. They gave some money as part of community support to a program for bikes in the schools. That was funneled through some safety focused orgs. |
The changes to Seminary were part of the Complete Streets plan and the Bike/pedestrian master plan, not the Central Alex Traffic study. |

A poll being taken now on whether residents want to keep the changes or go back to the way it was

Almost 2 to 1 in favor of returning it to its previous state. How will Justin try and explain that? |
Oh yes, the well-known accuracy of on-line clickbait polls. |
Youre right. The complete absence of any actual bikes using the lanes, the 1000+ neighbors opposed to the configuration, the Fire Chief being told (privately) to shut up and say the road is fine, the multiple DASH bus drivers telling people how horrible it is, the many doctors and nurses at the Hospital bemoaning the traffic, etc It's all just imagination. The votes to return the road must be a conspiracy! |
The actual data... During the evening rush, the peak travel period has been 5:15 PM to 5:30 PM. Prior to the change, the average travel time from the intersection of Quaker Lane and Seminary Road to Jordan Street and Seminary Road was 3.5 minutes. In November, after the changes were implemented, we saw a 40% increase in this travel time, with an average of 4.9 minutes. In December (excluding holidays and days when school is not in session), the average travel time was down to 3.9 minutes, an increase of 24 seconds from before the changes. During the morning rush, the peak travel period has been 8:15 AM to 8:30 AM. Prior to the change, the average travel time from the intersection of Quaker Lane and Seminary Road to Jordan Street and Seminary Road was 3.6 minutes. In November, after the changes were implemented, we saw a 98% increase in this travel time, with an average of 7.1 minutes. In December (excluding holidays and days when school is not in session), the average travel time was down to 4.7 minutes, an increase of a bit over a minute from before the changes. You're complaining about literally a minute or two. |

Well, a FOIA release that was just written up in the Alexandria Times confirms that the city lied like crazy about whether the fire department agreed with the total re-do of Seminary Road. Turns out they weren’t even asked and were then, later, told to publicly agree. This really makes the Mayor look like an outright bullying liar to everybody. The story is at: https://alextimes.com/2020/01/my-view-putzu-part-1/

This information is shocking for lack of timely notification and required input from Alexandria Fire Department ! A big thank you to Frank Putzu! |
