McConnell Whines About ‘Moscow Mitch’ Nickname: It’s ‘Over the Top’

“Beau Barnes, TRS' general counsel, said Friday TRS sold off its shares late last month, losing $3.2 million of its initial $15.6 million investment.

The sale was not mentioned when The Courier Journal asked about TRS' Russian investments earlier this week.

TRS’s remaining exposure to holdings in Russia is proportionately negligible in a portfolio of about $26 billion," Barnes said in a statement Friday.

About $30 million of TRS's $26 billion investment portfolio — around 0.12% — is in Russian investments, Barnes previously said.

All of TRS's Russian investments are through its international managers, Barnes said. It has no internally managed Russian investments.”

What is the percentage of Russian investments in total international investments? The proportion they supplied doesnt mean anything. If its 0.12 of all international then ok. Its its 0.12 of all investments that is purposefully obtuse.

Talk to me like I’m a child: what’s going to happen to those teachers? SOL?

Use the frozen oligarch's assets to make them whole.

In GOOP Kentucky? Probably blame it on the teachers and CRT.

The Kentucky teachers pension fund was 2nd largest shareholder of a Russian bank. Holdings now worthless. Some Russian aluminum oligarch pledged jobs in Kentucky that apparently never materialized. Some connection there.

Probably. It is curious that a state that has two compromised senators would also have this connection.

It has sounded in places like teachers are being faulted for this, but what choice did any of the teachers have? Which entity actually controlled the fund?

I prefer the Ice Cream Man, as his face looks like a melted scoop of vanilla.

Oh yes how could any good and decent American think that Rand Paul loves Russia?

As a state run defined benefit pension plan, the state will have to put in more money to fund the plan to make up the losses. Because these state plans aren’t regulated by Erisa, they often don’t do so promptly but are typically good for it at the end of the day (unless they go bankrupt like Detroit). There may also be a fiduciary breach suit against the Board but that depends on Kentucky law and at the end of the day it would all probably come out of state coffers anyway.

Benton has also worked for Mitch McConnell.

Just because you absolutely refused to read or believe anything about the GOP ties to Russia in the trump era does not make them false. McConnell perhaps less so. But Rand Paul? You’d have to be a flaming partisan not to acknowledge that he is in tight with Russia.
