I drive past that house every day. We live between EFC and Ballston Metro, and my husband’s drive to Ballston is equivalent to walking from that house to EFC. His commute is 45 min door to door to Federal Triangle. |
How long is his walk from the Ballston parking garage to the actual Metro? |
| Wakefield was the nicest. With the new boundary change to stuff more low income kids into the school, they are taking away the beautiful open ceilings and adding floor space above for classrooms. The school is projected to be grossly overcrowded in the near future. I know WL is overcrowded, but it has a much lower percentage of poor kids. This county sticks it to the poor kids. |
Guess whose parents complain the least? SB unfortunately always listens to the loudest voices. |
I was just looking at County projections, and Wakefield is projected to have over 3K students within the next decade! If no new high school is built to relieve the school population explosion, it's going to be nightmare. |
Wait, these are county projections or APS projections? |
It’s going to be a nightmare either way. Either they’ll build a full featured neighborhood school at the career center that siphons off half of Wakefield’s middle and upper middle class (the school is currently 50 percent FRL), or they won’t and kids will be going to school for a half day. This idea that they can build an option school at the career center with no sports or other extra curriculars and get thousands of students to voluntarily go there is just a fantasy. There’s a big reckoning coming. |

Thanks for all of this additional information, you all have given us a lot to consider. I'm sure the addition of Amazon is not going to help the overcrowding issues, and will impact both school districts.
Appreciate all the posts! |

| It’s hard to realize that $1M is a base price for DCUM suburbs if you have a wish list. |
Guess it depends on how long it takes to drive up the ramps to the lot. And how far away he parks from the elevator. And how long he has to wait for an elevator and ride it down. And wait for the light to cross the street. And walk the block over the Metro. 5-10 min sounds about right. |

15:03 - I've probably spent the most time inside Wakefield because a friend used to coach there and one of my daughter's teams practices there. It's a really nice building. I've spent a fair amount of time at W-L using the pool and the track, and attended a couple of events there in the gym and auditorium. We're zoned for Yorktown, and we've used the pool and track, and gone there to vote. All the buildings are pretty nice. Wakefield is probably the newest.
I worry that W-L is going to be really big because Kenmore's neighbors shot down any consideration of a 4th comprehensive high school on the Kenmore campus, citing traffic concerns on Carlin Springs. Yes, CS is a traffic sh*tshow, but W-L is served by a few 2-lane roads and busy 4-lane Washington blvd. I'm not sure stuffing 4,000 kids onto that campus is a traffic dream either. |

I would do what you can to live as close to his work as possible. I either drop my husband at the metro or he takes an Uber. It makes more sense to only have one car and most days, it takes him less time to get into the office.

It is bigger than your desired house but also under your budget of 1 million. |
That is absolute edge of Yorktown, will it remain? And many are not fans of Kenmore FYI. |
| You can live in Fairfax High district which has same rating as some of the schools you mentioned and still live close to Vienna metro |
