But she was briefly concerned before she did so. What more to you expect? /s |
You don't understand her problem? The Dems played dirty pool. They wanted to convict Kavanaugh for being an assaulter without evidence. That put her in the position of defending justice.
They were trying to eliminate due process. Sure, this was in a hearing and not in a court. But, they were trying him publicly with no proof--and no evidence. To most American people, IMO, Blasey Ford appeared to be a flake. |
I would argue that your reading of the situation is not nearly as universal as you think. What a lot of people saw was a woman with a credible story who was completely disregarded while her red-faced, beer-loving alleged assaulter was treated with kid gloves, while he shouted his way through a job interview for one of the best jobs in the world. There was virtually no examination of his alleged assault - and we all saw that, and there will be consequences. These are the consequences. I would say Susan Collins made the decision, in this hearing, that it was more important to cater to stalwart Republicans - especially Republican men - than it was to think about independents, or (gasp) women. A woman who many of us related to, saw ourselves in, came forward with what sounded to us like credible accusations - and instead of taking them seriously, Collins voted for the guy. That, plus her completely disingenuous feint about protecting Roe, made it clear that women can't trust her. I know you disagree. I'm sure you'll argue for why your view of it is right. Maine voters are the ones who will get to decide if they think she did them right. |
That’s exactly what’s going to happen in Maine. - someone whose parents were friends of Morella’s and still voted against her once Gingrich took over |
+1 from someone else who watched it. That speech was not about how she became a yes, it underscored why she was never a no. |
Good |
+ a million. And, flake or not, there was zero evidence. Further, whatever evidence existed, it contradicted her story, like those supposed witnesses who couldn't remember a single thing she was talking about. Dems tried to resurrect the Inquisition and it backfired. I'm pretty confident this is one of the things that will help the GOP retain the Senate in 2020, whatever happens in the WH. |
Did you...read the story? You might hold the Senate. It certainly won't be BECAUSE Susan Collins reneged on her promises to her constituents that she'd protect their abortion rights. |
She is a GOP core in moderate facade. |
Yup, only thirteen Mainers gave her $200 or more in the 1st quarter. And in the second quarter, Collins received more than four times the money from the DC metro area ($427k) than from Maine itself ($98k). Just 5% of her itemized money came from Maine. |
Wait till you see how much of Gideon's money comes from outside the state. More power to her. |
+1. She still trying to call herself a moderate when she hasn’t been one in years. I think things changed when Snowe left. |
+1 |
Well than hardy Mainers probably saw right through it, right? Collins in a landslide! |
+ 2 million Completely agree. Susan Collins has more integrity in her little finger than all of the Democratic senators combined. I was so moved and inspired by her words re: why she voted to confirm Kavanaugh. That "hearing" was little more than a carefully planned optic on the Democrats' part to try and condemn a man based on ONE 35+ year old allegation with no evidence. It was absurd. Kavanaugh has had a sterling career as a judge - and mentor to many, who has hired more minority and female clerks than ANY other justice, ever. And Democrats were hoping that ONE unfounded allegation from his high school years would prevent him from being confirmed. So pathetic and I will never forget the spectacle they put him through. I'd vote for Susan Collins in a heartbeat if she was running for president. If only. |
