I am not OP, and don't know if his kid was on Alexandria Silver or played BRYC Dragons. However, my son was on the Alexandria Silver U10, and I recognized one of the kids from their BRYC Elite U10 teams, but would rather not say how. I didn't know where the other guest player was from of anything about him except that he was big, tall, and athletic which means nothing.

I'm not considering registering any complaint, and I am sympathetic to the need to have substitutes when it is warm out. I know nothing about the schedules of lower BRYC teams, and maybe those kids didn't want to come. I did think it was massively tacky not to pull the guest players once the score became so awfully lopsided. I definitely did not see any Alexandria players crying, as OP mentioned, however.

Even if you wanted to, exactly what would such a lodged complaint even look like?

ODSL Rules:

Club Pass Players:

Must be registered to a travel team, or be a registered recreational player, with the same club for which they are club-pass playing.
If from another ODSL or recreational team within the club, must be age appropriate for the team and may play up in age, but not down in age.
Club-pass players are allowed to play up no more than two age groups in the U9-U13 age group. A player who is rostered to an older team, but by ODSL club pass rules qualifies to play with a team, may play as a club pass player. A player must be 8 years old to play in the ODSL.
Must possess a properly validated US Youth Soccer Travel Player Pass or a US Youth Recreational Player Pass signed by a club official other than the team coach who has validated their age by viewing an appropriate document. A player pass from any entity other than US Youth Soccer is not acceptable.


ODSL Club Rep Responsibility:

The ODSL Club Rep for the team must sign the club pass form in advance of the game verifying that the club pass player(s) being used is of an appropriate competitive level for this team or, the player is being used in a try-out situation for this team, or to replace an injured player, or to supplement a deficient roster. This player is not being used to improve the strength of this team or improve their standing. In lieu of a signature, the team may attach an email to the form from the club rep, dated no more than five days prior to the match, stating their agreement to the use of the club pass player(s).


Number of guest players allowed:

Club pass players are limited to a maximum of three players for any one game, in all age groups.
The number of players on the game day roster may not exceed the maximum number of players allowed on the roster of a specific age group.


Game Day Procedures: On game day, the club-pass players must have their official current year US Youth Soccer Player or Recreational Pass, and this is to be presented to the referee prior to the game, at the time of the standard player pass/roster check. All club-pass players are to be displayed on the ODSL Referee Report Card and clearly noted as club-pass players by placing an asterisk (*) next to their name.

Advice to Managers: If your opponent is utilizing a club pass player, the manager is encouraged to carefully scrutinize the opposing team’s Club Pass Player Game Day Form, player passes, roster, and game day green card prior to the match. If potential violations of the club pass rule are noted, they should be brought to the attention of the opposing team manager and referee prior to the start of the match. The manager hosting the club pass players should make a second copy of the form for themselves and have the opposing manager sign the form on game day, in essence acknowledging that they received the form.

I'm not considering lodging any complaint, unlike the OP. But if I did, mine would say "Bad sportsmanship and even the much better team playing across the field eventually noticed it."

Oh wow, if that was the game, my son was the only Alexandria player crying, but he was just having a really hard day - OP he wasn't that upset about the game in particular. So if he's why you are upset, don't be.

Also, so we don't unfairly slander the BRYC coach, it is not true that the BRYC guest players "played for the entire game". Neither started, and both came off after the second goal. One BRYC player suffered a head injury in the first half and might have left - I only saw two subs on the sideline in the second half. The one guest player was clearly the best on the field, but after scoring the first two goals was relegated to defense the rest of the game when he was on the field (I think he and the other guest player might have rotating in for each other on defense most of the second half). I probably would have kept him off altogether as the score got increasingly lopsided, but he wasn't really a factor in most (or all) of the second half goals, as the score got really lopsided. I've seen much worse instances of poor sportsmanship.

I also suspect there weren't any BRYC Rec players available since it was a Rec All-Star weekend.

A worse example of poor sportsmanship is the entire existence of this thread.

One BRYC player suffered a head injury in the first half and might have left - I only saw two subs on the sideline in the second half. The one guest player was clearly the best on the field, but after scoring the first two goals was relegated to defense the rest of the game when he was on the field (I think he and the other guest player might have rotating in for each other on defense most of the second half). I probably would have kept him off altogether as the score got increasingly lopsided, but he wasn't really a factor in most (or all) of the second half goals, as the score got really lopsided. I've seen much worse instances of poor sportsmanship.

PP here with the overly sensitive kid (not OP, who I am not certain is talking about the same game given her description of multiple crying kids). I was worried about the kid who got kicked in the head, but my recollection of how the other two players were used for the remainder of the game was different than yours. Anyway, it is in the past and hopefully everyone can move on from it.

Oh, I think this will be a day to reflect on for ages. Parents had issues with guest players, players had issues with allocation of excess snacks among siblings. My son is angry that he felt unfairly criticized by the BRYC coach for rubbing turf pieces off his knee when he was kneeling due to someone else's injury. Perhaps with years of therapy ....

I am curious as to why you say that. I don't know him personally, and we didn't play him Sunday, but I didn't notice him doing anything rude or mean when we did. I would say he seemed a bit controlling and had some rules that were not part of what we usually do (like requiring the kneeling for injured players that someone raised as a joke a bit back - we usually just ask the kids to stand still in place). But we won the game, and he was polite about it.

The point went way over your head. It’s a one off game. Your players do get a benefit of having the challenge of playing against higher caliber individuals, whether the result upsets you or not. Our club is not one of the big ones by any stretch of the imagination, and pretty much every single game opponents bring guest players, usually from their “higher ranked/league teams” and guess what? Adversity builds better players, regardless of level. You gotta adjust, maybe you lose but maybe it makes your own players step up their game. As for the team using them and why they play so much, having a player that can provide a solid base (ie. CDM) can allow for the others to play with more freedom and have some success. Ultimately you are getting bent out of shape over youth soccer. Your kid will live and there will be another play, another game, another season. If this is such a huge deal to you then take a step back, take it as a compliment or something. They needed guests to win a game for them; don’t be petty and roll with the punches. That’s life and that’s futbol.

Not over my head at all. Just a differing point of view. Yes, sports are about winning and losing and adversity. But, they are also about fair play and teaching in a positive manner, despite your cited life lesson about life not being fair and living with self-centered coaches. I believe in some guest playing allowed, but not stacking a team and wholesale displacement of the normal players from their normal playing time. Just my philosophy.
