| It proves that you don't have to have a strong work ethic to do it. |
DP: If your kids are really academically capable as you say they are, and they are still not secure in their own abilities, you might want to consider the possibility that the problem is with your parenting skills. Why do you and your kids worry about if other kids are working until 1 am? Or, since you also say that your kids are logging "SERIOUS" hours, may be they only "seem" capable and got into the magnets only because of those "SERIOUS" hours? In which case, you are also a hypocrite. Sounds to me you are concern trolling to make up for your own lack of parenting skills. And, you commenting on someone else rambling is pretty rich. |
I'm not that PP, but I'm guessing it's because it leads to an arms race, basically. Some parents expect their kids to do X, then other parents start thinking that maybe their kids are supposed to be doing X, then lots of parents think that their kids are supposed to be doing X because everybody else is doing it, and soon basically you gotta do it or be the only one who isn't. It's pernicious. |
yeah, if you are aiming for just "doing" it. |
Ha! Agreed |
That is YOUR issue. Not anyone else’s. I have a kid at the CES. I really and truly don’t care how much time other kids are spending on their work. And I tell my kid the same thing. If she’s doing her best and getting decent grades, IDGAF about other people’s kids. Some parents buy their kids an iPhone X and some parents let their kids play Grand Theft Auto and some spend thousands of dollars on swim team every year. Glad it works for them but it’s not our choice. We all make different choices at parents. |
No, really, it is everyone's, because we all live in society. Most parents don't buy their kids an iPhone X, but every kid in your kid's class is going to have a smart phone - within a year or two. It's one thing to do your own thing when everyone is making different choices, but it's quite another to do your own thing when almost everyone is making the same choice that is different from yours. If you haven't experienced this yet as a parent, you will soon. |

All your examples in your previous post, you racist scumbag, has been of Asian-American students. Your kid got selected to all the magnet programs? I don't think so. You say you are a magnet parent? I don't think so. Clemente Magnet students are going to Saturday School? Really? You sound like a Clemente administrator and that really explains your words, because it reeks of minimal understanding of the needs of these students. And if you claim that your kid is in the magnet program, I have a pretty good idea who you are. You write you have more time to read a book because your kid is doing less prep? You should have more time to read a book even if your kid is doing more work, because that is the student's work not yours. If you have to sit and teach your kid because they are incapable, then the magnet program is beyond their ability and needs. Asian-American students are not excelling because of their culture. They are excelling because they are AMERICANS and they live in AMERICA and they believe in MERIT and HARD WORK. |
Order! Order!! |
| DP. There are CES and MS magnet students in the George B. Thomas Saturday school. It seems mostly students getting help in the content they don’t far excel in. For example, an Eastern student getting help in IM. Cheaper than Kumon and some families have all their kids enrolled, not just the magnet student. |
I had a kid at a regional CES. There is not a single kid at our CES that is going to Saturday School. Are you kidding? They are taking violin lessons. Or playing MSI Classic soccer. |
I should clarify that none of them are going to the George Thomas Saturday School. They do attend other Saturday tutoring programs. |
George B. Thomas isn’t just tutoring. It also offers enrichment in STEM. |
You're familiar with every weekend activity of every child at your child's regional CES? |
