Why the heck arent they required to be fully licensed and show background checks to dcps /osse and rhe school for every single employee and company that work in ANY DCPS or DCPCS? This is unacceptable and crazy. Dcps requires parents to have prints & proof of a background check befor volunteering within a school. At minimum ALL companies and employees working or volunteering with children should have to do the same. Of course this might be less of a issue if DCPS would allow for sliding scale fees and enough spots for their own in house aftercare!!

Background checks are not a panacea.

They don't prevent abusers or pedophiles from getting hired to work with children. It will only catch those who were caught or arrested/convicted in the past.

Did anyone get that email from the deputy chancellor? Once again, not a single mention of OSSE’s role in regulating after school provider’s background checks. Very disappointing.

From what I am told, the offender was the brother of a regional springboard manager.

“We regret to share that we have learned of another allegation of sexual misconduct against Jestin Hickman, former after school employee of Springboard Education in America. We are in the process of coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to gather more information about this incident, and we will update you once we have more information.”
