The Gun Controlled Nazi's Called Out

Sport shooting isn't a need, it's a want. The true need is for kids to not be getting shot. The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is dictated by the Constitution and was in there before the 2nd Amendment was added. It should take precedence.

This is pretty much the gun control fanatics. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are when a nut shoots innocent people. It could be a terrorist - a mentally unstable person - a white supremacist - a left wing nut job - it doesn't matter. Their "go to" narrative is gun control. Enact more laws! Ban certain weapons! Limit ammunition!

My question is - aside from confiscating all guns - handguns, rifles, long guns - all of them - what could have been done to prevent these two crazy people from shooting at this school? What additional laws would have helped?
Since they reportedly broke into one of their parent's gun case and stole the guns - what should have been done to prevent this?

1. Ban automatic/semi-automatic weapons - and stop the deflection by gun nuts on exactly what those terms mean. Nobody needs that kind of firepower for hunting or self protection. That might at least help cut down on mass shootings.
2. Require serious background checks. If you want to buy a device whose only purpose is killing, then you should be willing to be thoroughly investigated to determine if you are a danger to other people. I don’t give a damn if it temporarily inconveniences gun owners.
3. Require that gun owners secure their guns, and implement severe penalties for those who don’t. Parents who don’t adequately secure their guns that are then used by their offspring to kill should be charged with murder.
4. Stop the glorification of guns in our culture. Kids in a movie theater should not be able to ‘play with’ fake automatic weapons in an arcade. That is just sick.
5. Not that the gun nuts really care about this, but start addressing the serious mental health issues that we have in this country, especially with young people.

I'm a gun owner. Totally agree with all this.

Another gun owner, ok with everything except item 1.

Semiautomatic guns account for about 75% of all firearms. That's a total nonstarter.

The other stuff? Sure.

Nonstarter?
I've used plenty of non-semi-auto guns. If you can't do things like hunt or target shoot with a bolt action then you probably shouldn't own a gun.

I'm actually a fairly serious amateur competition shooter. I'm not sponsored, but I'm ranked nationally. My sport (Three Gun) doesn't even recognize non-semiauto guns for competition. A semiautomatic handgun, rifle, and shotgun are the basis for the entire event.

You sound quite judgey, telling others what they shouldn't do. Other gun owners aren't advocating that your Purdy over and under or Sako benchrest rifle be taken away, so how'sabout you extend some of that same courtesy to your fellow shooters, huh Elmer Fudd?

LOL! Mr. Three Gun seems to be totally lacking in self-awareness. Accuses poster of being "judgey" but then goes on to judge the poster as some kind of an "Elmer Fudd" character. Fail.

Your sniper rifle has no sporting purpose. It's an instrument designed specifically for precision killing from half a mile away or more. You have no need for it.

What the gun control Nazis fail to realize that no matter what laws they pass, including mental health screening, it wont stop the killing.

Not completely, but history has shown us gun control can greatly reduce gun violence and homicide.

What 20,000 gun laws on the books already? "20,000 gun laws already on the books" is a bullshit NRA talking point.

Leaving aside the hyperbole on the numbers, one of the big problems is that so many of the current laws aren’t enforced because the agencies and programs tasked with enforcing them are not adequately funded. A law that isn’t being enforced isn’t much of a law.

It is also hard when gun laws are such a patchwork. The states with the weakest laws are the ones that cause the problems elsewhere.

1) do you support a universal background check?

2) do you support stiff penalties for people who do not secure their guns properly? Such as in this tragedy.

Still waiting on these.

NP. I support both. I carry a gun every day, but I have extensive training. If you want to buy a handgun, some level of training should be required.

What about a mandatory, rigorous and comprehensive mental health screening?

Nothing but crickets chirping on this one. As expected. Goes to show that 2A advocates are being completely disingenuous when they try and deflect and say the issue isn't guns but mental health.

Not everybody lives on dcum. Get a life.

LMAO! The 2A nuts come out on every other thread about guns... they are here but can't come up with an intelligent response when push comes to shove on mental health. They didn't think that far ahead, didn't get a nice scripted answer from the NRA and conservative media on this one.

That's easy for you to say. I'm sure you probably live in Bethesda or NW. Do you think criminals and gang members will turn in their guns?

What about our citizens mowed down by idiots with guns, huh? Apparently you don’t care that someone came for them

And don’t babble about mental health, because as soon as a proposal to fund that comes up, your side will cry poor mouth

That's how you see things? Only a partisan hack would say something like that. You are half of the problem.
Anonymous
which is why I stand by my statement that the Republicans ("your side" - yeah, I said it) don't actually give a crap about the mental health stuff they constantly scream about whenever one of these mass shootings happen.

They will never actually fund it and will fight it every damn step of the way.
Anonymous
why don't the sides work together to try to help reduce the gun deaths by suicide?

And why don't both sides work together to try to tackle our mental health crisis?

Why are these things political at all? We're talking about saving people's lives here. It should NOT be controversial.
