Which school is harder to get in, Jefferson or Blair magnet

Hey, I thought we were bickering about Maryland vs. Virginia in this thread, not Ws vs. DCC.

I am sure many of those kids are hard workers but many won’t be, in a school that big there is almost as many dropouts as magnet kids.

Perhaps, that was true 20-30 years ago, not sure, but these days it's not accurate. Further, as someone posted elsewhere Blair makes TJ their b**ch in every actual comparison.

Which part isn’t true? Blair is getting poorer and higher farms. Some middle class for sure but no one would call the university Blvd corridor a nice part of town

Blair's 2018 SAT average was like 50 points higher than any W.

W parents went crazy when that little tidbit came out. Before they could only point at the SAT scores to show they were better. Now that Blair scores shot up, they are sh$##ing on themselves. Their only advantage has disappeared.

NMSF? Nope
Presidential? Nope
Science bowls? Nope
Siemens? Nope
Science Olympiads? Nope
Math Olympiads? Nope
Intel/Regeneron scholars? Hell no

What are they good at actually? The consensus was classicism and racism.

So true!

I've seen the college admissions lists in Bethesda magazine year after year Blair is head and shoulders above the others.

I have seen the arrest records, hands behind backs better than most of the other schools too

The only arrest records we have seen are from the w schools, where there are drug dealers.
Folks, be careful if you have kids in the w schools. The may become victims of drug deals going bad i.e. got ran over by drug dealers cars.

I read a teacher was arrested at a W the other day too. Those schools have a different scandal every other week these days.

They’ve hit a new low, but it’s nit surprising they’re in decline. Most young people hate those boring areas.

No kidding. Does property value mean that much to people?

No skin in this game, but happy for Blair kids.

Blair is like MIT, TJ is like Maryland University.

Haha. Guess again. TJ grads are highly coveted at colleges and at employers. Plus there are more if them, which helps with networking, mentoring, representing the brand. And, as you already noted, it is not a sub scale in size program like the Balir magnet. Nor located in some corner of the county in a traffic nightmare for 2/3s the students to get to.

It is not really a traffic nightmare. It is right off the beltway so no local stop and go. School starts before the peak of rush hour and most of the busses are going East on the Beltway which is against traffic in the am. The busses also use the HOV lanes on 270. Our bus (from Wooten area) is longer than it would be in our neighborhood but traffic is not typically a huge issue.

The W's really have become a cesspool between the crime and racism.

Blair envy is a real thing on this board. It's fostered by magnet rejections and stronger outcomes on tests that matter.

I never understand this "Blair is a nightmare for people to get to" argument. Is it one of those It's So Crowded, Nobody Goes There Anymore things? Or are people who say it, really saying, "I think the program should be in Bethesda, where I live?" Or what?

Blair is next to the beltway in one of the densest parts of the county. Sure, it isn't convenient for people who chose to live in Potomac, but that's pretty far out there for most of us. I've also read that the largest group of kids in the program live in that area so it works for them.

A TPMS parent who had the school directory claimed the largest group there had Silver Spring addresses so this makes sense that Blair would be similar.

OK, so the poster above was cheeky and off base, but this is like tit for tat. I was offered a spot at TJ in the 80s, and my kid is at Blair. I turned TJ down because it was in some corner of a traffic nightmare. Just sayin. They are both great programs. TJs size could mean it's slightly easier to get into, has better networking, but could create more competition for college slots. Blair's size could mean the converse. Could. Silliness. They're both great. Well done, kids!

And then there is 3pm to 7pm gridlock, which we all know is awful for anyone let alone a busy Hs kid. Care to comment on the other half of a daily commute?
