My child is still on the AOS waitlist but has received admission for AET. How many people do you think are remaining on the waitlist ?

Is there still any hope for AOS waitlisted kids

At this point, unfortunately, I don’t think so. My older daughter currently attends AOS, and last year they finalized the waitlist at the end of April. My younger daughter is on the waitlist right now for both academies. While the Tj waitlist comes out in June, there will only be 1 or 2 spots opened up.

For parents with children on the AOS or AET waitlist, there is a lot of bad information being posted here. Specifically, note how often someone posted that no one else would be taken off of the waitlist but then folks posted that their son or daughter was offered admission off of the waitlist the next week. My son was on the waitlist and I emailed the admissions office and got this reply regarding how the waitlist works:

Thank you for reaching out to the admissions office. Students who have been offered admissions to the Academies of Loudoun have until April 5, 2019 to accept or decline the offer. After that date, students who have been placed on our waitlist will be offered admissions as needed until all of our seats are full. This process will continue until the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you,

Kerry Flaherty

I've also spoken with counselors there. All students on the AOS or AET waitlist remain on the list until school starts for the next term. There is no such thing as being "full". That being said, with each passing week it would seem that the chance of getting in off of the wait list is lower than it was, just using common sense. But people do move out of the area. People get cold feet. I was told by a friend who has a freshman at AOS that 3-4 kids dropped during the first month of school last year, and they filled those spots from the wait list.

So while it becomes less likely, the wait list remains active all summer and as kids drop, others are offered. So good luck to you all and keep checking that portal.

How many people do you guys think are on the AOS waitlist?
Anonymous
Around 120

120 seems a little unreasonable, at my daughters school there are 2 or 3 students on the waitlist. I would say maybe 50-60.
