DP......and that they recognize they need to be able to support themselves. But, if you read the article, what I took away was that the fulcrum is the choices people make. Those in lower economic classes move out from their parents houses earlier to live on their own, they are more likely to have kids outside of marriage, etc. - all things that impact financial well being. Other research has been clear that the longer women delay childbearing, the better financial outcomes for their families. Yet another reason to start teaching financial literacy early and provide free, readily available birth control. |
How's that racist? It's a valid suggestion to avoid those horrible white families. You can move to Haiti too if you prefer. Both are lovely countries. Go enjoy. |
It isn't only parents of a certain race or country who want their children to get the best, safest education. I sent my children to public schools because of the politicization of the education. Little did I know I was jumping from a scolding hot frying pan into the fire. God bless the children. |
Your anger and advice are misplaced. I neither wrote nor agree with the article. Focus on the author of the article and email that person with your advice. I don’t need it. You can tell the author to “go to Nigeria.” Such a helpful contribution. |
Culture is the problem. Until that changes, nothing changes. |
Culture may or may not be a problem but income inequality is certainly much larger. Of course it cannot be addressed on an individual level, but that doesn't mean it cannot be addressed. |
I am quite sure the less fortunate among us will be very grateful if you choose to contribute your income to a worthy cause or causes of your choice. How much of your income have you contributed to the less fortunate? |
How wide should it be, and how did you arrive at that conclusion? |
What level of income equality or inequality do you believe would be appropriate? How did you arrive at that conclusion? To what extent should an individual's efforts and talents (or lack thereof) have an impact on his or her level of wealth and income? How do you propose to effectuate your vaguely-imagined socialist utopia? |
Nigeria isn't the only alternative to the United States. That's just one example that some PP gave. If this is indeed such a horrible country to live in, there are many alternatives. Have you considered Venezuela, the socialist paradise? |
It's as if the notion of income inequality and the instability that accompanies it is a novel concept to you. If so, read more. |

According to this author, when white folks scrimp and save up for a downpayment on a house, they are "hoarding wealth."
Saving money from your paycheck, putting it into a 401(k), building retirement credits for a pension, this author says that's bad racist white folks "hoarding wealth." What a loon. |
You didn't answer any of the questions. Stop thinking like a college sophmore on a 420 high in the dorm room at 3 a.m. and actually answer the questions--if you can. If you don't know how "equal" you want incomes to be, or how you determined that, or how you will enforce that, or who will enforce it, to say nothing of unintended consequences--then you're no better than the author of this jealous rant (the entire article was motivated by her financial jealousy of another associate professor who was able to buy a brownstone because her parents had saved money and had life insurance and left it to her I guess. But they were both WHITE so how does "racism" have anything to do with anything?) So, what's the cutoff? How equal is equal enough for you? What about someone who is smarter than you, or works harder than you, or gets more accomplished than you? Or vice versa? Should we all get paid $15.00 per hour? No matter how hard we work, or how little we work? Maybe you are one of those socialists who has a fantasy of being able to sit on your rear all day and someone gives you a nice fat check? Dream on. |
As everyone really knows, in reality, the "Great Society" programs of the 1960s, while possibly well-intended, have been an absolute catastrophe for black families, yet Democrat and Socialist politicians nowadays want to double down and triple down on these disastrous policies. White racism doesn't cause out of wedlock black births and absent black fathers on an endemic basis. Moynihan identified this problem over 50 years ago. People like AOC are just ignorant of it. |
+1. OP, until you are ready to state that lifestyle choices are a factor, including not having multiple children out of wedlock, all of the rest that you are stating is hogwash. |
