I really don't think that the sexy stuff is nearly as prevalent as some people would have you believe. I've never seen any sexual moves from kids. I've seen a few moves from teens that I thought were somewhat inappropriate, but this is not the norm. |
| I do think we are talking about values and standards, because in my 7 or 8 years i’ve rarely been offended by a routine with young girls in that age division. You are saying the sexualization of young girls is rampant, but I’m sorry that’s not my experience. Make up is needed to see facial expressions. I don’t know what to say if you are offended by glittery costumes. Your opinion is subjective, just like mine. However, you go a step further by demonizing girls who work very hard and take the risk to perform before the judges and perhaps some very judgemental mothers. I respect your choices. Im just saying, the language...strippers, linking an performing art to pedophila.... |
I'm not OP. This has nothing to do with values. It's sexualization of young girls. It's not every dance group, but I've seen it many times and it's scary. Be glad that's not you or your DDs experience. |
| Yeah. I’m actually really glad ... |
| which dance schools are legit vs. "stripper training" in Northern VA? Both my kids are interested in dance. |
| Shame on you for posting that video with such ill intentions. Wasn’t this discussion about the 8 and 10 year olds? This appears to be a Chicago (as in the broadway show) style dance in the teen division. Can this video be removed? |
shame on the OP for her bad spelling. This thread is nails on the chalkboard. |
| So I actually used to be a stripper and I agree with OP 100%. Some years ago I went with a friend to see her daughter in one of these things and I was totally appalled. Many of the moves would not have been out of place on stage at the club, and the little smirky faces they are trained to do also really shocked me. Before anyone calls me a hypocrite, I think it is one thing if an adult woman wants to dance in a sexual way and understands and consents, it's a big difference to have 10 year olds doing these same suggestive moves with no context or awareness in a public performance. |
