Agree that this house is way too big for that lot, and so can't imagine anyone spending that much to have neighbors so close. But I disagree about the house that was there before; it was super-ugly unrenovated 1970s and was ripe to be torn down.

I live in Forest Hills and can't believe they were able to build this. Ugh. Where were all the do gooders who protected the Polish Ambassadors old house and the one across the street from it that is up against Soapstone. Plus, they just tour down another cool Mediterranean style house at the corner of Ellicott and Lineaen. Hope another monstrosity is not going in there. Time for a historical district ?

The house next to Soapstone sucks: why bother?

The Polish ambassador’s is big and on a big lot, but it’s the only house I’ve seen where the sprinklers appear to go on when it rains!

I guess the downside to FH’s relative architectural open-mindedness is that you’ll inevitably get some truly ugly stuff.

Yup. I live in the neighborhood and am watching this happen in real time. There’s a 3.5-story hideous mess of a pop-up just around the corner from this one.

You guys are really bringing me down on my fantasy of one day moving into this neighborhood when I suddenly become unexpectedly filthy rich in 5-10 years.

I'm the PP here who lives in Soapstone - that three story pop-up is hideous. I thought the house across the monstrosity we are talking about was bad but now it just looks garden variety McMansion. Sigh.

And there are quite a few houses in FH where the sprinklers go off when it rains - I watch them as I run in the early am. Always blows my mind.

Oh...don't worry. The area that is getting the worse stuff is the end nearer to Politics & Prose - houses are smaller there. Most of the other houses are big enough and kept updated that they won't be messed with. The Polish Ambassador's house is an exception as it is on a huge corner lot. Living here is wonderful...close to the city but you feel like you live in the woods. Come on over!

I live in Forest Hills and cannot get over the monstrosities that are being built. It's supposed to be a neighborhood with zoning rules, but builders seem to easily find ways around them. The one on Fessenden coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Sopranos, so maybe that's what they had in mind when they named it

This is a listing likely has a foreign buyer.

AKA: garish/too big/no class.

Anyone know who bought 3301 fessenden? Looks like they closed in October.

There's always secret service and security there. So I'm guessing someone relatively high profile?

Israeli Ambassador - which makes no sense - the old spot was much less exposed and easier to guard. Oh well.
