I was wondering if the guy showed up because of the babies. Strange they both went into labor at the same time. Did he do something? I also thought he was there to see if one or both were psychotic like him, especially with the mom “deciding” who would look on the boat. I thought for sure that Girl was psychotic and could look.

I kind of thought they should have let the kids look. The creatures show you your worst fear, but they are blank slates, no fear. No comprehension. Perhaps they could grow up evolved to process them.

That's exactly what I thought and I kept thinking that would be the twist - that only children who had been born during that time, and thus had no references for fear (as they had been completely sheltered) would be able to look.

I also wondered why they couldn't go out at night; would they have been able to see anything?

It also seemed as if they could have gone outside unblindfolded - briefly - as long as they had the birds with them.

I was curious how the John Malkovich character survived being in the open garage. Did he just sit there with his eyes closed?

How would a newborn or immobile baby commit suicide, even if they watched? A newborn wouldn’t hold its breath, everything they do is based on reflex.

I am one of those people who loves to hate what the masses love, but in this particular case I am going to have to agree with the masses-- I loved this movie!

This was easily theater worthy.

Were there unrealistic parts? A boatload, but I chose to turn a blind eye (pun) to them.

I really liked the actors and thought "girl" was particularly sweet. I liked Sandra Bullock and Tom's chemistry together a lot.

Side note, am I the only one who thinks that Tom resembles a much more attractive version of 50 cent?

Those who saw the entity underwent what appeared to be a permanent physical change. Even if a baby couldn’t kill itself right away it could eventually.

They did show the creatures. The crazy guy had drawn them in his sketches.

How did Tom kill the bad guy after getting the crazy eyes? I thought because that was his worst fear, that someone would hurt Mallory and the kids.

I think he was still in the process of transforming, so he still had the wherewithal to pull the trigger.

I thought the old lady was Sally Struthers! I was surprised to find that she is someone else. Anyone else?

YES!!! I kept trying to place her, and finally googled All in the Family (couldn't remember Struthers' name). I could have *sworn* it has her!! What a resemblance.

There are several questions not being addressed. What is the impact of these creatures on other animals besides birds? Are the creatures doing this for a reason or is it just a side effect of their nature. At some points in the film it appears that the creatures are chasing humans, mimicking voices, etc. If they had some physical presence and just wanted humans to die why wouldn't they attack the derfenseless humans. Why would they want them to die in the first place. The creatures could be like the cuttle fish whose rapid color changes cause some kind of neurological damage even though they may not necessarily be trying to harm humans.

I noticed that the Car Gang and the River Guy also had normal eyes. The “things” aren’t always around.

River Guy did have the weird eye thing, not sure about the Car Gang Guys though.

Maybe they are aliens that need/want to inhabit human bodies, but only the insane can host them and survive?
