I watched it this morning, and found it very stressful. Screaming "no no no" at the tv for the last 30 mins was not a great way to start my morning! But I am glad I didn't watch it right before bed.

Ditto.

Although I think the word stressful describes it better. I do not watch any horror movies and I don’t think this is horror but kept me on the edge of my seat and stressed out for the entire time .

The electricity never went out. Faucets continued to provide clean drinking water.
A woman who blindfolded found a drowning child in a raging river after boat capsized

Aside from the scenes from very early in the apocalypse when electricity would still realistically be available, if by generator if nothing else, I don’t recall electricity or running water. Was there?

Weren’t the kids tied with rope to the boat?

I thought there were a few things they could have done to make it seem more realistic- disposing of the dead bodies, sourcing water, and generally showing the struggle of survival given the dangers and limitations they had to deal with.

The dead bodies are what made it realistic. No one’s going outside to drag corpses around - especially when the threat is visual.

The one upstairs by the computer, for instance. Just showing them coming up with more solutions to problems would have given it a more authentic feel IMO.

The part where one guy is trying to get an infant to look at the light outside? Infants do not have clear vision. The see clearly only a short distance.

I was wondering if the guy showed up because of the babies. Strange they both went into labor at the same time. Did he do something? I also thought he was there to see if one or both were psychotic like him, especially with the mom “deciding” who would look on the boat. I thought for sure that Girl was psychotic and could look.

She does that in all of her movies. It's annoying.

When she was in Speed I dont think she ever had a line in a normal tone.

I hear relationships based off intense situations never work

He probably didn’t know how to change a diaper, either. Poor crazy guy.

I kind of thought they should have let the kids look. The creatures show you your worst fear, but they are blank slates, no fear. No comprehension. Perhaps they could grow up evolved to process them.

Ha, crazy guy wouldn't know that. Also, how would an infant deliberately kill themselves? There were a number of logic gaps, but still a good suspenseful film.

Speaking of crazy guy, how could his eyes look normal at first? All the other crazies clearly had the weird eye thing.

I noticed that the Car Gang and the River Guy also had normal eyes. The “things” aren’t always around.

He was from the criminally insane home. How would he know about a baby’s vision. He just wanted everyone to see.

Mallory had placed a lot of fears in those children long before the river trip.

I disagree. I think the creatures aren’t necessarily creatures, but rather, specific things or people that the individual who is to see them can’t look away from or will be mesmerized by. Not necessarily scary (one saw a mom), but something that draws you in (“WTF is that?”)

No she wasn’t. She kept a steady head - that’s the point of her naming the kids ‘Boy’ and ‘Girl’. No frivolities until safety. Unlike that blond ditz who let in the psycho.

I totally got her "all business" attitude. It must have been exhausting to never let your guard down for five/six years straight.
