For everyone asking, the D.C. government and @dcpublicschools will be open Wednesday.

Thank you!

I hope this is true.

It is direct to me from the mayor’s office."

One cannot "think John McCain" for the state funeral of a former president. And whether schools are on the route of the procession is irrelevant. The official day of mourning is a national gesture of respect and, while it only directly applies to US government offices, it suggests closure for other organizations nation-wide.

Hi progressive,

Why don't YOU place that call?

I’m not taking my child to school in what will be a traffic and metro disaster, we will go to lunch and a movie in bethesda.

It's not an inaugural parade with people lining the streets and events happening on every block.

All of the movements of Bush's motorade from the Capitol to the Cathedral to JBAB will occur between 9:30-2:15 pm while students are in school.

It's the right decision.

ridiculous, how many people do you think are coming to the funeral? I suspect traffic will be more impacted while he is lying in state but not for the funeral. services.

Give me a break. With the exception of Wards 2 and 6, most of the District will be unaffected.

I’m not starting anything but I would expect the same level of DC government operation for Obama’s funeral in the future.

More likely the DC government would close for a week.
