Can I just point out something? Other schools are not subject to this tyranny of the minority. Look at Mundo Verde, about to move into a second campus in Brookland which will cause incredible traffic snarls, and put a lot more kids into a school building which has previously been smaller. But, it was already given a cap which is high enough, so, nobody needs permission from anyone and they're free to move in there in spite of the potentially extremely opposed and well organized neighbors. The neighbors are powerless. And you know what? I'm one of them, and I don't care. Schools are important. Kids are important. Slight inconveniences to support schools are the right thing to do.
Just pointing this out because this is just a fluke which even gives these few neighbors this megaphone and they wield a ridiculous amount of power. The building and grounds easily accommodate more kids, much more easily than the MV new building will which won't even have a playground. This attitude of the neighbor above is simply sickening, elitist, NIMBYism which needs to be called out. I want this person to show their face and be judged. Shame on you. |
Check off that box as "done". LAMB is 17.3% Black and 9.7% at-risk. West is 55% black and 38% at-risk. Brightwood is 20% black and 42% at-risk. For those neighbors who are concerned about "who" LAMB is bringing to the neighborhood, don't worry. No one is lowering property values by allowing a high performing school of mostly well-to-do non-black kids to occupy Kingsbury. |
I don’t want your school or kids in my backyard, be they green or blue. The neighborhood will fight this and likely win. LAMB needs to focus on the current lawsuit with their teachers sexually assaulting children and then the CEO/admins cover up. If the school covers up sexual assault, how much more would they be willing to bury under the guise of “educating children?”
NOT IN MY BACKYARD and NOT ON MY WATCH! Take your charter lottery and debacle elsewhere. |
You sound more like a bad parody of my neighbors than anyone who actually lives nearby. Nice try. |
If you read the BZA transcripts you'll see that those neighbors actually are a caricature of themselves. |
We’re pretty comfortable with a diverse neighborhood and have no issue with school kids in the neighborhood. I just don’t believe that LAMB is about serving underserved children. It serves few economically disadvantaged kids and even fewer at-risk. |
Ahh... why so angry? Is it just the sexual molestation case or is this your feeling about all charters? Or any type of school that would open at Kingsbury? |
Yes, obviously. The "underserved" children at LAMB perform much lower than the "underserved" children at either West or Brightwood. Even though LAMB "seems" to be performing higher overall, that's not true if you look at the performance of each student group. |
You should be angry too but I guess the smog from the Mt. Pleasant/Columbia Heights area is affecting your thinking. I'd rather miss the disease of critically thinking. People have a right to their opinion about their neighborhood factored in. It is called active discourse. You don't live in the neighborhood and yet you feel the need to force your thinking on someone that actually does. Your entitlement first hand is showing ![]() |
Please stop. I don’t know who you think you’re helping, but you’re not helping anyone, including yourself. And if you’re not drunk, then recognize that you make no sense. You might want to figure that out before speaking in public. |
I just moved here. I don’t have kids. I did move from a heavy smog area so maybe it affected my thinking. Help me out and answer the question - is it just LAMB you despise or are you against any school opening at a Kingsbury? |
Pretty sure these anti- folks would be quite happy to have Kingsbury sell to another private school with a population of 150 which is ideally quiet and physically disabled so as not to have much loud recess. |
That’s not going to happen. The Kingsbury financial picture doesn’t work once DCPS has improved the quality of special ed services. |
I was able to see the full docs by searching by the case ID: 19581. For some reason the direct link doesn't bring it up |
LAMB definitely has as its core mission to serve underserved and economically disadvantaged children. They were just too good at it, and as a result, UMC people flocked to the school, apply in large numbers, and because it’s done by lottery, the demographics of the school have changed. |
