MOVE, dum-dum! You probably would look down your nose at my $500K SFH in Crofton, MD, but guess what? I actually can afford my life, and sleep easy at night with nice savings and my mortgage as my only debt. |
Its very clear that your ROI on those law degrees was awful! One or both of you need to move to the private sector and pay off those student loans before they destroy your financial future. |
What I find staggering is that 500K+ worth of education later OP has no idea how to figure out something as simple as net worth.... Talk about a poor return on your investment!!!! |
I think they should’ve also prioritized paying down debt before the kids and house. |
People don't go to law school to live in modest apartments. Do you get it. |
Np. But in this case, they should! |
Then all that sacrifice, had work is all for nothing. At the end of the day, there has to be some point, no? |
You know what? Sure. Live in a prime location now; you deserve it. Lease that fancy car now; you deserve it! Later...be saddled with debt for life, die destitute, and leave your children with nothing but resentment and the burden of your care. Leave this world in debt and nothing to show for your work. You deserve it. |
My jaw literally dropped when I read 575,000!!! How on earth??? |
You are not UMC; you are a fraud living a life you think you deserve but that you can in no way earn or afford. Learn the difference. |
You sound really angry. Why does someone else enjoying life irritate you so? Perhaps you were once in the same boat as op and followed your own advice? It would make me miserable too ![]() |
DP. But what other choice does she have? She can't refuse to get a high paying job, refuse to significantly cut expenses, and expect to ever get out from under that staggering debt. Debt compounds and pretending she can just go on the same path and live the life she expected when she got her degrees is misguided. Something has to give and it won't get easier the longer she waits. Realistic is different than bitter and angry. |
Show me how OP will get out of at least $500K of debt AND be able to save for a secure retirement without making big changes and giving up her fantasies of entitlement to a lifestyle she literally cannot afford. I’ll wait. |
The move to private practice for either could be a terrible financial decision. If they are working in the right public service, they could be eligible for public service loan forgiveness after making minimal payments for 10 years. Then move to private practice. |
NP. I wonder the financial status of someone that makes these kinds of statements. |
