I don't understand why HHI is so low for two lawyers? |
One works in government, the other is at a non profit |
How old are they? |
I disagree that the OP should selling the house. But one of them needs to seriously start looking for a higher paying job. Start prepping now so you have something and a system in place when the younger kid enters school. |
Nowhere did that post say they did IVF- learn to read. And waiting until your 30s is a known fact your fertility is 90% gone. It’s not whether most women need fertility treatments, it’s about your fertility declining WHEN YOU WAIT. Facts are facts sorrry you don’t have yours straight. |
We live in a townhouse with our kids so what’s your point? |
Learn some science. It’s absolutely false that a woman’s fertility is 90 percent gone if she waits until her 30’s. It declines, yes but not that quickly. |
if you go to law school with without a scholarship or rich parents, you pretty much have to go to private practice.
Please tell me one of you is at least in a public interest loan repayment program? |
+ 1. Amazes me that lawyers can fail to understand this. |
OP, we have 320k in loans, a 445k mortgage, 50k in debt from medical expenses, 2 daycares. We make 200k. It is tough. We don't eat out. We have one car. There is no gym membership. Both my dh and I should apply for loan forgiveness with our jobs but DH got screwed by Naviant or whoever they are now and is on the wrong payment plan. I am trying to make sure I am on the right payment plan but it looks like the program will go away. I actually planned a career in public service with my advanced degree but now thinking of moving into the private sector which would bring us to 250 or 260k. I know some things aren't forever. Daycare costs will drop and the car will be paid off in three years. Plus we are building equity in our house. We are in our late 30s/early 40s, so everything will be paid off by 65. We also have about 400k in retirement and my dh might inherent enough to invest and use the interest to pay off the debt. If I can get loan forgiveness our lives will be much easier in the next decade. |
This is what I’d call an alternative fact. |
Threads like these make it so, so clear how much more important no student debt is than any pressure to get the degree in a high paying field. Unless it's a T1 university, and you're planning to commit at least a decade to the soul-sucking route of whatever profession you're choosing, prioritize a low debt. You will have so.many.more.options in your life.
And if you do end up making a low-UMC salary, you'll actually be able to enjoy it. |
+1. It’s why I’m prioritizing college savings for my child more than private elementary through high school. |
Sweety, move to Germantown, MD. Seriously. |
This. Sorry. |
