My kindergartener can read pretty well, but is clearly still adjusting to her new school and the new expectations. This past weekend she was an emotional disaster. Everything had been going well, but all of her stress came pouring out all weekend. I'm sure she will be fine, but I'm totally okay with them taking academics slow for a while. She's making new friends, learning a new school, and getting to know her teacher. She already can read well--she doesn't need to rush further ahead right this instant. It's more important for her to be comfortable and happy. |
Decode = D sound, O sound, G sound = dog. Sight words can't be decoded such as "was". If you are going to be mean, at least be correct. |
| Yep, typical. But I agree to take concerns to the principal. We should expect more! |
DP here. The question is--can the child understand the words when she reads them? Or, do we get the blank stare? I taught young children. Frequently, those trained to decode or call out sight words from flash cards will give you a blank look when they read them in a book. That's the elephant in the room from all this early pushing. |
