NP here: My K kid went to a fairly normal DMV preschool and is also bored with the worksheets. When does APS start differentiating the kids who know how to decode and have some of the sight-words down from those who are unfamiliar with the alphabet? Just curious. I"m afraid she's going to get in trouble in class when she's bored like I did...apple falling far from the tree and all that.
My kindergartener can read pretty well, but is clearly still adjusting to her new school and the new expectations. This past weekend she was an emotional disaster. Everything had been going well, but all of her stress came pouring out all weekend. I'm sure she will be fine, but I'm totally okay with them taking academics slow for a while. She's making new friends, learning a new school, and getting to know her teacher. She already can read well--she doesn't need to rush further ahead right this instant. It's more important for her to be comfortable and happy.
