Decode  = D sound, O sound, G sound = dog.
Sight words can't be decoded such as "was".

DP here.  The question is--can the child understand the words when she reads them?  Or, do we get the blank stare?  I taught young children.  Frequently, those trained to decode or call out sight words from flash cards will give you a blank look when they read them in a book.  That's the elephant in the room from all this early pushing.[/quote]
