| Age 30, with my spouse. No family help. |
| Year (state of the economy) is a bigger factor than age |
|
38, DW was 34
we (mostly me) had saved up about 90K, so were able to buy a rowhouse in near northeast in 2016 |
| oops that was 28, not 38 in previous post |

26, 2003, small 2 BR TH in Reston. HHI was about $90K at the time. We used some savings and gifts from our wedding. Did an 80/15/5 mortgage, as we were being told no one was accepting VA loans at the time (my husband is a vet)
The TH appreciated and we moved into a SFH 8 years later, right before our first started ES. We were able to use a VA Loan that time around because it was when all the short sales and foreclosures were on the market. Our house was a normal sale, but it needed upgrades. We put down 10% and used the rest to make some renovations/upgrades. |
| Age 38 in late 2008, 20% down. Could have afforded earlier but I thought homes were overvalued. |
| 35 and 35 with 10% down on a $450,000 house in 2017. Nofamily help. We bought in silver spring near forest glen metro |
| 28 with my 30 year old partner |
Me too |
| Age 23 with boyfriend who was also 23. We are now married. Met in college, no family help. FHA loan with 3.5% down on a SFH in Vienna Woods in 2000 for 250k. We bought as soon as we had a year of job history with our already established paltry savings of 12k between the 2 of us. |
| I bought in 2003. I was 30 and saved all $13k of my down payment without any help. Rowhouse in Bloomingdale cost a little over $200k. Still live there now with spouse and two kids and house is worth almost a million. |
| Age 28 in 2005. Condo. Bought it by myself with some help with down payment from parents. Still had to do an interest only loan, but it's all worked out in the end. |
| I was 24 when I bought my first condo. I was able to live at home with my parents after college graduation and save save save. I did contribute to bills but I spent pretty much nothing. No car - I took the bus. No vacations. No fun. Worth it. |
| Age 27, with DH. A townhouse in what was then a crummy area of S. Arlington. I had grad school loans but no college loans, DH did not have any student loans, so I guess that counts as family help. I got an MBA so had a pretty decent job. We lived very frugally by today's standards - 1 car, hand me down furniture, very little eating out, etc. |

29, 2014. no family help but bought with DH who was 36.
DH bought his first condo around 33. |
