Give me a break with all of the bashing on this event! It is a charity event that raises money to help a school that is set up to help students of color (primarily) get a college prep education and much support in high school. Don’t read into the name of the event.
I’m thinking if some kids were drunk than the organizers will take steps to rectify the problem fot next time. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. |
| Like many charity events they could raise more money if they didn't require parents to buy a white dress that won't be worn again, and didn't rent a expensive venue. Would suspect this is the last year since police had to get involved. Ridiculous. |
| My child will be in 7th grade next year and no way will I let her go unless there are assurances that it will be monitored much more closely. I do think it should be shut down. From friends whose kids went, it was many kids drunk and acting inappropriately. |
|
The group raises >$35K.
The tickets sell out in 24 hours. Of course the event will go on and nobody cares if your specific child is not going. I suspect a bunch of people did not get a ticket and are butt hurt about it instead of worried about the event itself. |

Stupid event. Some terrible behavior by the well-know fast kids from these schools. Schools know who they are, parents know who they are.
It's not surprising that there's great correlation with the kids who are "not invited back" "didn't get a contract" or were "counseled out" and the ones who were puking in the bushes (or back at mom and dads house). |

Scarcity creates the demand. They sold out in 2 hours this year -- it took me 90 minutes with multiple pages and browers open on two screens. My daughter and her friends had a good time, lots of drama etc., and I won't mind if she goes next year. By 9th grade they're over it. |
| What school produces the kids puking in the bushes? Where are those kids headed for high school? |
You probably don't think the Redskins should change their name either. There was an important civil rights protest at Glen Echo. It isn't just some random place that was segregated. Ultimately they closed the Crystal Palace Pool rather than segregate. I remember when this happened. Crazy, huh? |
They are raising money for disadvantsged kids do really thinking glen echo is the perfect place. You are not woke, get over yourself. |
My sons very good friend goes to don Bosco so your feigned concern is vile. |
lol wtf |
What makes you think I'm not? I agree this is NOT the hill to die on--but don't pretend that throwing a few dollars into a hat for the charity of your choice makes the name choice any less insensitive. |
Oh - the whole white dress thing has kept the wall of the privileged private schools and run to the general population? That IS a ridiculous and wasteful tradition! |
A better thing to do would be to have a dance party with the disadvantaged kids. But no - rich people, especially rich white people, just like to ‘help’ in ways where they don’t have any contact with the recipients and in a way that brings even more pleasures for themselves. It’s ridiculous. |
