homework at Holton & NCS

I'd bet if you asked the kids they would give one answer and the teachers would greatly underestimate the amount of hw required for each class.

I would not listen to what the kids say. Keep track of the time they actually spend doing homework. My kids are in ms. They complain vociferously about the amount of hw they have to do, but when I add up the hours they spend on it at home (as opposed to study hall at school), it comes to 1-2 hours a week. We would welcome more homework, maybe interesting projects that would stretch them. The reduction of homework at some schools has gone too far.

above poster -- do they go to one of the privates mentioned in most of these threads?

Who doesn't listen to their kids 15:05-- that's crazy

We changed schools because my daughter complained that our K-8 hardly gave any homework and she was bored and not being challenged. She now has homework in most subjects every night and feels she is learning more. Has not yet complained.

PP --- thank you for answering on my behalf, although that is not how I would have phrased it.

very odd that people would take the time to rant anonymously and then clam up when it was time to share any useful info they might have

I think that's right above. Some people don't like to share information or better yet -- they make it up!

That's just silly. Absolutely not made up. If it were made up it would take no effort at all to make up the name of a school to go with it. Besides, what would be the motive?
Anonymous
The motive is some people are really irate that their children don't get accepted into some of these schools. So they are understandably agree or think they did something wrong -- so they attack the schools that rejected their children -- it's all safe for them to say because they are anonymous.

I am sure that happens but it is not the case here. I am just concerned that the changed homework policy is not working for my children. After all, we picked the school precisely because it has a challenging program. However, in addition to everything else, I like the school a great deal, and my children are happy there, so I see no reason to single it out by name over this one thing.

I would question the veracity of this post.

This works out to 60-120 minutes a week of DC private school homework, which is 10-20 minutes/night, which is 2 minutes/night per class, and the poster doesn't want to name the school in an anonymous forum.

Come on. You're making this stuff up. You know if you named the school you'd be exposed.
