IUI-- did you do it. Did you succeed. Why do people do this?

I haven't read all the posts. IUI worked on first try for kid #1. For #2, first IVF worked after 6 IUIs. IUI is way easier and sometimes works, do why not try? I say this even after having 6 failed ones.

oh wow, so you have 2 kids from IUI?

Yes. My main issue with ovulation. Once we figured out the right meds, we conceived easily, thankfully.

Dr. Sack at Columbia Fertility - he is wonderful. They do full cycle monitoring, including daily ultrasounds if needed as your cycle progresses to hit the sweet spot in terms of follicle stimulation. CF gets some negative comments on DCUM (as do all clinics I guess) but I loved them.

people do it because it's low tech and sometimes it works. we had much better luck with IUIs than IVFs.

We had male fertility issues, the second IUI worked. DH was afraid that we'd end up with twins, so I did not take any meds (I secretly wished for twins though

anyone have multiple miscarriages with IUI? my fear is that bringing up several eggs without being able to assess quality of an embryo= more miscarriage risk in IUI

I did 6 IUIs, none of which worked.

I ended up getting pregnant on my own (1 mc and 2.5 years of charting/temping/opks with time sex) after an attempted polyp removal. I think I had endometriosis so the IUIs never would have worked. I think that because I got pregnant three more times within a 6 month time frame (2 early miscarriages and 1 baby).

In hindsight we could have skipped at least the 2nd 3 IUIs. But the jump in cost between IUI and IVF IS SO HUGE. I just couldn't do it. We paid $1500 for each IUI and IVF is like $18k-25k.

So my advice would be to try it twice and then re-evaluate.

I'm six weeks pregnant from my first medicated IUI (35, unexplained infertility - two years of trying, one natural conception and MMC at 8 weeks) with GW. Dr. Comstock explained that my best chances were with a medicated IUI (Clomid + Oviderel trigger shot) but that if it didn't work after 3-4 cycles statistically there's no point in trying again. I've been happy with GW. Alejandra, my nurse, did the actual IUI. My betas are looking good, fingers crossed that we get a heartbeat in two weeks. Good luck everyone!

Pregnant with my second IUI baby! The first one from my second IUI, the second one from my 4th (that round) IUI. Very glad this option exists!

I'm also not AMA though

Currently holding my IUI baby right now. She is two weeks old. We did 5 rounds - got pregnant on third IUI but miscarried. Did IUI after D and C (after the wait they have you wait - two months I think) did not get pregnant but then next cycle did. Worked with Dr Saffan at Shady Grove. We talked about doin IVF instead of IUI for the last cycle but the cost difference and retrieval process made me want to try IUI again. Dr, felt like IUI would work because we did get pregnant once before with IUI.

Was on ovidrel, clomid, gonel-f and progesterone. Super happy with my experience.

I know the q is where were you successful but I think its equally imp. to know what to avoid with respect to IUIs. I did 3 IUIs with Shady Grove. The first two included just a baseline ultrasound and no further monitoring. I was instructed to track my ovulation using at-home opks and no trigger; they did not test blood to make sure I had ovulated. I am v. sure there was user error and am not at all confident the procedures were done on the correct day. If I knew then what I knew now there is no way I would have wasted time/money on that. Given that I was out of pocket, I also would not have wasted what amounted to the cost of a cycle of IVF on the 3 IUIs.

I agree, I think if you're going to do IUI it's definitely worth it to do blood work and u/s monitoring.

Can you ask for this? Shady Grove recommended natural cycle IUI for me.

NP. In my experience(2 healthy IUI babies), Shady Grove is very flexible.

I did not take their recommendations on several aspects, and they very willingly worked with me.

I wouldn't bother with a natural/unmonitored IUI. There's too many moving parts that could go wrong. Do you trust yourself with your OPKs enough? OPKs are also not always 100% and it is possible to get a false LH surge. There's so many things that could go wrong. If you are going to move onto IUI you should at least be monitored and I'd try to push for a trigger at least so you know for sure that your timing isn't completely hosed. If there is no MFI, a natural IUI with only one follicle isnt going to change your odds much from natural conception either. Just trying to be realistic here.
