Splitting the school system implies people are tired of the consequence of the ineffective efforts of reducing achievement gap by MCPS. Because of the political rightness, people dare not say it. the policies MCPS has implemented in recent years such as 2.0, grading system, etc have negatively influenced the normal performer students. Each individual kid only has one chance to be at ES and MS in their life. Why they should be selected as guinea pigs? If the large school system is splitter into two, so different school policies can be applied to different schools whatever they fit. And it will give MCPS more room to consider more extreme policies. |
| I’m trying to wrap my mind around being this self-centered and entitled but it’s hard to grapple with |
so what the f is the problem? |
This is an awesome idea. You should definitely pursue this. Respectfully, - DCC |
Prices are high because demand far exceeds supply. What can be done about this? Allow supply to be increased. |
It wasn't the children of the parents who are complaining. |
I agree. The sad thing is they don't even realize it. |
It's not self-centered to want the best for your child sorry. It's called being a decent parent. People in lower SES levels should be more vocal about it |
So, it’s self centered and entitled to assume that your money at least goes towards adequately educating your children? Some people don’t have any money left over for extra tutors, classes or therapies to educate their children outside of the public school. The county shouldn’t be taking people’s money - raising taxes frequently and having some of the highest taxes in the nation - and then squandering it and redistributing it in such a way that leaves middle class people needing to pay for private school or hire expensive tutors. That’s rudicous. Of course people expect a good education for their children with the rates of taxes paid. Yes they are entitled to that - they worked to pay their taxes and an good education is expected. If the county wants to provide a crappy education they can reduce taxes so that people can choose their own private school for their kids if need be. If you send your kid to a private school and pay the tuition you expect a good education for your child. The public school system is only different in that many people whose children don’t go to the schools and those who have no children are paying towards the schools. There’s plenty of money provided it’s just being mismanaged. |
Some parents broke the first rule of "W Club". They brought up how dissatisfied they were with the W schools when their child didn't get into the magnet. Well, shit...now they gotta find a different way to make sure they are differentiated from us "regular" folks in the rest of the county. |
My children are getting a more-than-adequate education. Maybe you should move to the part of the county I live in. It's evident, at least from the gripes on DCUM, that people who move to Bethesda or Potomac "for the schools" aren't getting what they think they paid for. |
It’s not wrong to want to educate your own children. If people have enough money to want to educate poor children from other countries that need a highly specialized education that’s a great idea but starts a nonprofit - you don’t take money from taxpayers to do that. It’s you that is entitled - you feel entitled to people’s tax money to further things that you believe in . You assume that everyone has an unlimited supply of money like you - enough to educate their own children adequately and also numerous kids from other countries immigrating here . People are telling you that that is not the case but you continue to push on. They don’t have guilt like you do because their family doesn’t have extra money after paying their taxes and yet their kids aren’t getting the education they need. Not everyone in this county is rich - get a clue. Start a nonprofit and stop assuming that everyone is as rich as you. |
They are getting a good education- a VERY good education. The problem is unrealistic expectations that are not being met. |
It's called SES segregation. How you equate that with being a decent parent is...
|
| I think it’s more that they’re declining which is cause for concern... |
