Books that you found overrated

Agreed.

Not that is was highly rated, but was a bestseller - The Da Vinci Code. I hated the book and hated myself for going to the movie.

I made myself finish it and I agree with you.

Nora Ephron's books (all of them)
Paula Hawkins Girl on a Train (a page turner, but flat characters)

I could go on. I think I have a longer list of over rated books than genius ones, sadly.

OMG, I agree about the Hawkins book. I cannot figure out why it got such good reviews. It was like reading about stick figures.

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult.

Interesting thread. I liked Hillbilly Elegy and Secret Life of Bees.

Anything by Scott Turow is terrible-the man cannot write-and I'm not a fan of Grisham.

I heard the author interviewed on Diane Rehm years ago, walked in the room as the radio was playing the interview, not knowing who the subject was, and was repelled immediately by her then trying-to-sound like a 22 year old voice among other things. I just can't stand her, or the book.

I opened this thread to say those one too. I hated both the book and the movie.

I loved the one set in Sitka -- Yiddish Policemen's Union or something like that -- but I couldn't get into the others. I don't care for cartoons in any format and at least one of his books was cartoon format, which automatically took it off my list.
