Friend Picks Very Expensive Restaurant for Birthday Dinner.

Uh. Hello?? People??

This is a TWO year old thread, why are you still giving advice to the OP? Pretty sure dinner is done by now...

To the ridiculous PP who dug up this zombie thread...

WHY??

Are you seriously giving the OP advice two years later??

I know it's been two years, but as a general response:

There are always limits, and they are determined by context. What if the friend had taken the invitation and said she wanted to fly to Paris for a 3-Michelin-star restaurant?

Just offering does not oblige you to everything. That's silly.

+1

We do that as well. It evens out at the end.

I checked the menu and with wine, cocktails, dessert, tip etc. I imagine the bill is going to be almost $400-$500 and add more for Uber or parking - which is a lot for us. I am stunned, it seems rude. But I am not sure if I am being cheap or a sucker. What would you do?

Who has this kind of money? Why is she assuming you do (I'm am asking her, not you, OP)? How old is she? She seems very immature, to say the least.

Are you young? I remember this tradition of having friends pay when I was in my 20s and early 30s. Now everyone is married and no one does this anymore. I say suck it up since you only have so many years of this left anyway.

And drop her as your friend. Who needs friends like that?

Dying to know, since it’s been 2 years, what did you do OP and are you still friends?
