She doesn't care if "you feel her". She started the thread 6 and a half years ago!

And the meet is still going!

show up for her heat and leave or go for a walk. come back when it's over.

Hahaha. But they can’t be that long though? It isn’t like you are stuck there waiting for hours. I am convinced swimming is the worst parent-spectator sport

If dance could be considered a sport (I know, I know) that is the absolute worst. You have to wait for your kid to perform a 2-3 minute piece, in between watching 100 other kids performing their pieces - which you could not care less about.

I’ve had kids in XC, track, gymnastics, swimming, and dancing. Dancing is the best - especially when the competition is week organized because then the “show” is near constant. Lots of downtime between heats, can’t see kid (love the comment about baggage claim), etc.

Why dont you just wait in your vehicle in the parking lot?

Find a carpool so you only have to go once in awhile.

My parents never went to my track meets and It didn’t bother me

Any way to guesstimate when she's on? Show up 30 mins prior and leave a few mins after she's done. Hour tops.

Dance is the worst. At least you can come and go at a track meet without anyone noticing. A dance recital is like a hostage situation.

This is starting to feel like the Monty Python “Four Yorkshiremen” skit

Bumping this as a parent new to track meets (middle school) and wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to the usual sequence of the various events? Also about how long the meet would be, at this level?

Junior high might vary, so you should ask the coach. For high school, I screenshot this and keep it handy:

I'd estimate two hours for junior high, unless it's an invitational involving many schools.

I know this is more of a vent, OP, but please still go, maybe not for every meet, and maybe not for whole meet.

I ran throughout middle and high school, and my mother came to watch me once. I think she thought it was boring. Now she sees how I go to all my kids’ events, and I believe she regrets it.

Thanks, this is helpful. Do the field events happen simultaneously while the track events are going on?
