I don't like going to my daughter's track meets

Swim meets are the worst.

You say that because your kid doesn't run cross country. You watch them start. Then they disappear. So you watch an empty finish line. Woo Hoo.

At least with swimming there are other people swimming to watch. That's mildly entertaining. With cross country they're gone.

It's like if your kid was a competitive scuba diver.

With cross country you move about a little to see them at various points excluding the start and finish. And you know the time when they are running.

Cross country is one of the few sports where the spectators also get to participate. I’ve gotten some good workouts running from spot to spot to watch the runners pass through.

Even if you don’t feel like coming, try to show up occasionally. I am in my 40s and ran xc and track in hs. My mother, who is terminal, recently shared not coming to any of my hs races as a regret. (At the time, barely any parents came - it was no big deal to me, but in reflection, she wishes she had made the effort even though she didn’t understand or care about sports.)

Could be worse.

X-country has the advantage of being pretty short. And, run mostly in decent weather.

Swimming is worse in the sense that meets last hours and kids swim 2-5 events.

Track is much the same as swimming only outdoors.

The worst is skiing. Kids do 2-5 races and it’s in Winter and you get to be outdoors.
